The information in my original post is accurate. Twinklee: "This organization you are quoting is very anti-service dog for those on the continuum of the higher functioning autism spectrum." Could that be perhaps because the tasks your dog (& others who have been rejected by this organization) is claimed to perform are not legal tasks? Or perhaps you yourself do not meet the ADAs requirements as disabled? Tasks have to fit the individual with the disability. I see far too often people with AS pulling tasks off a list, train them to their dog & claim their dog is an SD. You have to be disabled under the ADA to require an assistance animal, tasks dogs are trained have to fit the individuals needs or they will not hold up in court. Just because a person has autism (or any other disability) isn't a green light to get an SD, you have to meet the legal requirements. The websites I quoted do not support people who break the law. Twinklee: "YOU HAVE YOUR QUOTE WRONG!" No I don't, I simply didn't quote the entire thing. If you're such a smarty pants you quote it, go on correct me. I'm guessing you don't even know it? Twinklee: "So, in fact, service dogs for those who are on the autistic spectrum are legitimate. Those that have a form of autism experience various amounts of stress when interacting in public as well as at home. The manifestations of the stress may be mitigated with having a service dog. The stress itself, as well." Sorry, you are wrong. You are spreading incorrect information. Autism alone is not a green light to require an SD. You have to be limited in your daily life activities, those limitations must require the assistance of an SD. It's why they call it the autism spectrum, there are high functioning, low functioning & in between. Call the ADA Information Line at (800) 514-0301 - you have a lot to learn. If you end up in court believing what you wrote is true your going to be in a world of hurt. There are high fines for faking an SD both federal & state. Twinklee: " I have a disability, doesn't give you the right to judge whether I need my service animal! That is between my doctor and myself." No you are wrong there to. Your Doctor does not make law. A doctors note does not meet law. So this would be between yourself & a judge. Don't think it's so difficult to end up in court over a case & your dog, I've been there myself with my SD & won. Would you? Think about that. Heck, don't take my words here for it. Boards & lists you want to check out to find legal & correct advice. Post your views to the following & learn the truth. If you find information that contradics what I have shared those people are blowing smoke. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Psychiatric_Service_Dogs/ http://servicedogcentral.org/content/ http://servicedogcentral.org/content/node/79
