Re: Disability Community Responds to Hateful Comments by Michael Savage (Score: 1) by Differences48 Monday, December 29 @ 14:09:18 EST (User Info | Send a Message) | | I agree with this. I think the most frustrating thing is when people think you will have difficulty associating with others when the truth is that you just need clearer instruction. I think if people are aware of the neurological deficit or inability to be "normal," I do think that they fall into 2 camps: 1) they may be patronizing and try to do everything for you thus you gain no progress or 2) they feel that you will not have a good personality fit for the organization. The difficulty for someone with AS to realize is that they need to persuade the person that's hiring that you have the personality to meet the corporate culture and to do the required duties. That can be very difficult as HR is looking for someone who will be a good fit, meaning personality fit, for the organization. I do think that they really try their best to be accommodative having been on both sides of the schema, but I do think that just simply being aware of AS is a misnomer in that it can be equally as good as bad if it means that acceptance is not fully achieved. |
