About Animal Testing 04-30-2012 06:07 pm starkid's Blog
just to get it straight, you wanna stop all progress in almost all fields of science
Almost all fields? Not sure that's an accurate way to put it. There's little or no animal testing going on in physics, geology, or climatology.
because you do not like vermin (and yes i consider mice/rats vermin) being killed over something which can and does benefit all of us (and that includes animals).
Whether or not they are vermin is irrelevant. With all the problems humans cause this planet and other species, we are the ultimate vermin, but that doesn't mean we deserve to be treated like lab rats. Vermin suffer and do not like or deserve to be incarcerated (in cages), tortured and murdered any more than we do. And no, it is not because I "do not like it." I hold my opinion because animal testing violates animals' natural right to life and liberty. I could go into detail, but that's the brief version. It's an issue of morality, not an issue of liking or not liking. I have stopped doing/using all kinds of stuff I like because of that moral issue.

As for the so-called "progress," a thousand times more progress would be made if humans, particularly those in industrialized countries, stopped pumping out all the foreign chemicals that are causing and/or exacerbating the diseases that are driving the animal testing, and end the unnaturally stressful societal conditions that cause mental problems (in the case of animal testing for psychiatric medication). That doesn't necessarily apply to things like autism, but these sky-high rates of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc., in the U.S. did not exist 50 years ago. Since they are not caused by pathogens, it is becoming more and more clear that they are caused by the unnatural, drugged-up and poisoned conditions humans have come to live in.

So, the animal testing that is going to result in yet more pharmaceuticals with yet more harmful side effects to humans, and yet more pollution when they end up in the soil/water supply (due to our urine, flushing the rest of our prescriptions down the toilet, etc.) is not really a benefit to anyone or anything on Earth.
too add, i presume you are a vegan and pro-life looking at your last point seeing as you considering killing of animals murder.
You don't really have to presume I'm vegan since it says so plainly. It doesn't really matter what we call killing animals in the context of animal testing. It's immoral regardless. My morals don't center on the definition of words; they center on preventable harm.

"Pro-life" is a meaningless slogan, not an actual position. Most everyone (including me) is pro-life in that they would prefer that no abortions occur. The real difference in opinion has to do with whether or not and under what conditions a person will accept SOME abortions. If you want me to go into detail about my views on abortion, I will, but pro-life vs. Pro-choice is too simplistic to describe them.
