My Diagnostic Status
posted at 07:43 pm on 10-26-2011

Ripped from a post I made on the forum. "For the record I don't think I have Asperger's (hence my diagnostic status being set 'Not sure if I have it or not') I think it would be wrong to describe myself as neurotypical though. More likely I have ADHD, sensory processing disorder, executive dysfunction, and social anxiety, elements of those of those in some ratio. None of which are very easy to detect from my forum posting alone, I guess. I was pretty sure that I had asperger's at one point, but have since rectified that judgement. That's partly from benefiting from information found here at Wrong Planet. I seem to be able to bring a little of the benefits of being NT, (my social skills seem to be actually fairly functional, after having spent a lot of time and effort working on them) but also able to understand (at least partly) many people's autism experiences (I wasn't always socially able, functional or popular... far from it). Anyway, this thread isn't really about me. I just think I should probably clear this up though, since I am 'part of the furniture' here, and I don't want people to go thinking I'm an NT masquerading as an aspie, when I'm not. I think I have been as honest as I can be about my 'diagnostic status' and if anyone wants to know more, feel free to ask me."

Funny Synchronicity
posted at 01:30 pm on 10-13-2010

I was thinking about cola cubes earlier (we were talking about old sweets you don't see any more) and then as I was coming home, I found one in the street outside my house.

I didn't eat it.

From Plato
posted at 02:51 pm on 09-17-2010

“so does the stream of beauty, passing through the eyes which are the windows of the soul, come back to the beautiful one; there [255d] arriving and quickening the passages of the wings, watering them and inclining them to grow, and filling the soul of the beloved also with love.

And thus he loves, but he knows not what; he does not understand and cannot explain his own state; he appears to have caught the infection of blindness from another; the lover is his mirror in whom he is beholding himself, but he is not aware of this.

When he is with the lover, both cease from their pain, but when he is away then he longs as he is longed for, and has love's image, love for love lodging in his breast…” Phaedrus – Plato, translator – Benjamin Jowett 1871
"the most profound meaning of Venus – the beloved, be it person, object or intellectual idea, as the mirror of one’s own soul.”

Dreams
posted at 08:07 am on 04-09-2010

09 April 2010

I was sitting at a lunch table in a long, closed off city street. It's a bright but cloudy day. The street reminds me of the race course in Monaco. There's a kind of dark, black shack at the far enclosed end of the street, a kind of street cafe selling food. There were three other men with me eating their lunch. I looked a long way up the street, as though using a telescope, to see an attractive brunette woman talking with her friend and looking my way. Her expression was difficult to read. Suddenly, the man in front of me told me to 'walk now'. I guessed that I was being abducted/kidnapped by them. He had silver grey, close cropped hair. I walk up the street at their behest and turn left into an enclosed corridor with an arched ceiling. Beyond it, there's an amazing foreign bazaar, and I see a stand covered in exotic carpets and textiles. There's a young man in an amazing Indian wedding suit. I can hear bells or charms ringing, metallic tinkles and glongs in a strange musical sequence. They seem very pure and beautiful.

Concentration Meditation
posted at 09:40 am on 03-21-2010

I keep bringing up meditation as something that really helps me, and I think (know) could really be of great benefit to many people, but particularly those with AS. I decided to write a mini tutorial that I can refer to, instead of typing out the same information over and over.

Very simply, you must keep your mental attention on a single 'object'. Typically, the object is the breath, a mantra (sound), or some visual object like a spot on a wall. Keep your attention on the chosen object. When you notice that your mind has moved from the object, to other sights, sounds, feelings, thoughts - anything that is not the chosen object - bring it gently back. Let distractions happen in the background, don't let them be in the foreground. Rinse and repeat until you can keep your attention on an object indefinitely.

Start with 10 minutes a day, and add more time as you see fit.

It sounds ridiculously simple. But you will see the benefit is great. A feeling of pleasurable comfort and well being will arise. You will feel calmer and more relaxed. The many thoughts whizzing through your head keeping you in a state of agitation will peter out, becoming thinner and less imposing.

If anyone would like some clarification or extra information please feel free to contact me.
