The best friend who never gets the guy/girl in the movies.

It's absolutely unfair. This friend, who secretly (or not so secretly) has been liking the person for a long time, even years. They have feelings that don't die, even though they've seen this person at their best, their worst...The person doesn't watch themselves around this friend. The person isn't putting on his best face, and dressing up to impress around the friend. And this friend still will have feelings for them. They listen to this person's problems, hang around them, invest hours of time into them, they put up with the misery of unrequited love...And then some blow-to-self-confidence stud comes out of nowhere, and gets the person they have been in love with instantaneously. No work involved. Just a few aptly placed sweet things, or some physical attention. And the friend watches as their efforts and feelings continue to be ignored or thrown away...All the while having this romance rubbed in their face, a constant reminder of themselves not being good enough for it. All that honesty and care just ignored. Insult to injury. It feels like a big, green "FUCK YOU".
It really, REALLY sucks to be the best friend.
