Hi! My name is Tanya and my son Joshua was diagnosed with high energy Aspberger's Syndrome in December of 2005 - he was 2 days shy of turning 8. He is now turning 10. We are beginning to understand a few things he does, and still have the thought that Joshua is Joshua. We thought of his actions as his way of expressing himself. His teachers did the ADHD talks the very first day of every year of school, and we said no. So we are "one of those parents". We were told there is no cure of AS. He has threatened to shoot a teacher in Kindergarten, and he ended up in ISS for a month or two. The school started an IEP without permission, by the time we discovered they did that we had been homeschooling him for two months. We learned and recorded everything on paper what we did and his responses. How to get him to do homework, and found a strict schedule worked great along with a lot of hands on learning. He was working on how to make a maze for a math/art project, when the school district showed up at the door and wanted to know why he was home. I told them school can't apparently handle him. If they could find a school that could deal with him he can go, if not he stays home. The school district sent him to a teacher that was fantastic. She cut straight through his violent agressiveness, and we had him repeat kindergarten because of all the changes he needed the stability. So he stayed in that room for one more year. The room was an Early Childhood Kinder-garten, filled with kids with many issues, and three teachers. He couldn't get away with anything. They taught him how to be independent, and mainstreamed him in school. His school was being rebuilt and figured before they rearrange the school we better transfer him out. That was this year. So far he has threatened to blow up, burn down the school and with help tried flooding the school. I asked him why, and he said that if the school isn't there, he doesn't have to go. So we took a tour of all the other grade schools in town. I told him that they would just bus him to another one. Since then he hasn't tried that, but has tried leaving the school on his own. He's been caught a few times. Since he went to school from the start he has been talking of bullies, now that he has been saying it so long, and he is now getting hurt on the way home, noone believes him at school. He has been coming home from school three times a week for the past 2 months, and they tell me the bullying is in his head. Yesturday a kid went after him with a baseball bat. The was informed last time when he was hurt, and they could do nothing about it. Today the school called and asked about bussing. We'll see if that works.
As far as vitamins and restrictions go, he is on coffee, Pediactive (DMAE), fish oil (in the morning) and passion flower tea an hour before bed. We tried St John's Wort, but it reduces the other things he is taking. I am searching information about valerian root next to see if that would work.
I found a psychiatrist, and we'll see how this works. All else fails if I don't like him I can find another one.
Joshua's obsessions are weapons, warriors of all sorts, martial arts (wants to be a ninja), and robots. He loves to draw them too. He wants to draw comic books.
Joshua is in Shorei Kempo Karate, he has been in Capeoria, and Aikido. He is asking permission to join Aikido again. He is on trial. - He almost got squished last week he ran in the middle of Rondori, I pulled him out just in time.
