Singing to the cat...
posted at 04:25 pm on 04-19-2010

She's baffled by it, but she's used to me by now. I'll just burst into random songs and sing to myself as I cook, clean the house, surf the interne, anything really. I talk to myself all the time anyway - why not sing to myself?

I don't know if this means I'm a nutcase or not. I don't really care. I like music. It's hard to believe that I didn't take much interest in music until I was sixteen. I had a few favourite tunes as a child, but it was "Bohemian Rhapsody" that caught my attention. It was delightfully strange. When I asked what it was and it was replayed, I thought it was the wrong song (the intro is very different to the middle). And then I discovered more.

I now have about 4800 tracks on my iPod. I know a song for virtually every occasion. I find listening to music helps to calm the noise in my own head. And nowadays that noise tends to be the music I listen to - like having an iPod in my head on random shuffle. It gets stuck sometimes but I can often select what I want to "hear".

And sometimes, I sing along. The cat doesn't mind.

I'm feeling a little down these last few days for a number of reasons, though one of them is sheer tiredness. I don't know about aspies generally but I often feel I'm wearing a persona - that I'm inside a shell that does all the social interaction. It does so very well, but it's every day, on and on, and occasionally I'm just tired and want to get away from the world for a while. And the world never goes away.

I can relate somewhat to this strip. I've never had the urge to shoot myself yet (!) but this is pretty much what it feels like - putting on the act every time, all the time, and sometimes just wanting it all to *end*.

Good night all, and I'll be back in my social interaction suit again tomorrow. It probably needs dry cleaning by now.
