poetry on love, commitments and marraige
posted at 08:10 pm on 02-25-2007

a priest was to deliver his homily on a wedding day, as he looked into the eyes of the couples, he pondered his words, and spoke: "before i let you share vows, let me share my thoughts. love is like the water that when you grasp too tight will slip your hands. too lose will yield the same. let your love then be the gentle grasping and caresing of your souls. let it feed your hopes and wishes but let it not blind you since you need to see your path. and when you promise, promise not the moon and the stars but the constancy of your love for one another. for if you commit only to the riches then hate and anger will seperate you in lean days. commit to what remains and not to that which rust, moth and decay destroy. you come here to be bound, then let you binding be for eternity. for this binding brings you to perfection and in every way it is the path to holiness. do not see each other as a subordinate but a partner. like the poet who said that you be like pillars standing together but not for each other. so you must be. love one another, and let it never bring you two to arguments. always talk with a kind voice and never raise it in anger. listen first even if it hurts you. but never store injuries nor pride since it only adds to insult and more hurt. love each other for that is the thing to be done best."
