Hmmm...
The thing with having lived here all my life is that u dont reelly notise an accent... Well, not a genral British accent anyway, sumtimes reegonal accents can be very strong. i persnally am not a fan of the scouse accent, at leest not usully, but that mite come from beeng from manchester, theres quite a bit of rivalry between manchester and liverpool. _________________ Chronicles of the Universe: Sons of Earth Volume 1 - Bounty Hunter now at 98 pages! Hi everyone,
I do not think accents make anyone superior, however, it's nice to hear how someone else sounds. I like the english accent, most of them anyway. The accent may be nice, however, if you don't like the person, then it's no good!!!

| I think the correct orthodoxy is to say that there is no such thing as a 'superior' accent and that all accents are 'equal'. |

| Nope. Besides Everyone tends to have some accent when viewed by others in another part of the world. Sometimes they are subtle and othertimes not. |

| I realised that people perceive accents differently when I read about an American who said that Canadians have an accent. To me the Canadian accent sounds milder than the American. |

I used to get teased because my accent(I live in Mississippi)was slower than the average southerner although somewhat milder and I tended to sqeak alot. Now,My voice is still a little slow, but not as slow as it used to be, and my accent isn't as mild anymore(although it's still mild).
BUT,I don't think that having an accent makes someone superior to everyone else.Down where I live you got TEASED if you ahd a different accent from everyone else.

Mel Gibson claims he was routinely bullied in school in his teens by his classmates because of his American accent (he moved to Australia from New York with his family in his teens). _________________ My type of joke... People usually ask me where I am from because they cannot place me.
I used to have the strongest Yorkshire accent you had ever heard and people used to comment on that too. I didn't like the attention it brought so I got rid of it.
I sometimes put other accents on just to make people like me.... I was mistaken for Scottish by a Scottish Taxi Driver.... and sometimes people think I am posh even though I come from a working class family. I don't know why this is, I do it subconsciously so when I break out into my Yorkshire accent it actually frightens people or makes them comment on it. Mostly they think it is put on...
I hate my voice but people have commented on it being nice. |

I'm from California, but I've been asked if I'm from various places (by the way I talk), including Chicago and Boston. I know I don't have the same accent as many Californians do, though. My friend who moved here from Australia about five or six years ago still speaks with a really strong accent and she told me that I speak with a similar type of accent, only not nearly as strong as she does. _________________ Itaque incipet.
