Does anyone else have chromesthesia or synesthesia? I have very strong chromesthesia, an association between colors and letters & numbers. When I see a word, I see the colors of the letters in my mind. A is blue, B is pink, C is yellow, and so on.

chromesthesia: the association of imaginary sensations of color with actual sensations of hearing, taste, or smell

synesthesia: Sensation produced at a point other than or remote from the point of stimulation, as of a color from hearing a certain sound

I have a photographic memory for phone numbers, but I actually am just remembering the sequence of colors in the phone number, not the numbers. So 817 I would remember as "green white yellow."

Here are my colors for 0-9:

0 clear
1 white
2 red
3 yellow
4 green
5 pink
6 blue-green
7 yellow
8 green
9 brown

Anyone else?

I have both. Since I can remember, I've always seen a background of color in my mind everytime I heard music. The color depends on what key the musical piece is in. Say, if I hear, "Material Word", I see a deep red or if I hear, "Satisfied" by Richard Marx, I first see blue and then orange when the song changes key toward the end.

As for numbers, letters, days of the week, months and the alphabet, I've always had a color for each one. "Sunday" is green, "June" is brown, C is red and the number 8 is a salmon pink.

Yes, Thursday is brown and Friday is blue indeed. But for me Monday is sky blue, Tuesday dark green, Wednesday is white, Saturday is silver and Sunday pure yellow.

For numbers I don't see colors. I see geometric forms that look like polyminoes.

I had always thought Chromesthesia was a subcategory under Synesthesia. Hmmm...

The two yellows and the two greens are different shades. 7 is a darker yellow than three, 4 is a brighter green than 8.

Chromesthesia is a subcategory of synesthesia, I guess.

No, no shapes, but I do see colors for shapes. Circles, yellow; squares, red; triangles, orange; rectangle, dark red; ovals, green.

I see shapes for music, usually when I'm sleepy or on the very rare occasion I'm intoxicated.

I get shapes and textures for music, but it's more like sensing than seeing... there's a distinct physical location but my eyes aren't picking up anything unusual.
