I know nothing about this organization. I just found it interesting.

For families near there, it might be worth checking out.

Theres a commercial on ESPN every now and then that is about a camp like this, pretty interesting view of autism (though not neccessarily a good one.)

Theres just one and its like using sports (big with ESPN lol) as a way of healing (which is my problem with it as it implies that the autistic kids are broke to begin with) and it just shows them going around and ends with one of the guys saying that the mothers say something like "its been so hard but today was so great" or something like that.... just watch something on ESPN for an hour or so, youre sure to see it.

Not at all. I'm really glad. I didn't watch any of the videos I'm at work and that's not allowed.

I saw that the org was run by parents of a child with autism and assumed they would be understanding. Sad

omg he really did say damaged! also what is to say that that would help all asperger's or autistic people? some the motor skills ( my son ) are so poor they couldn't surf no matter how bad they wanted to it would be more of a frustration if you ask me!

I don't know anything about this particular organization, but I wanted to share that my 8 yr old recently participated in a "Surf Camp" event put on by a local Christian surfer group, and he absolutely loved it! He says it was "the best day ever in his whole life so far"

Prior to going he had never swam in the ocean before and was a bit fearful of drowning, so I had him wear his "Waterbug" suit that has built in floatation foam under the wetsuit, which enabled him to relax and enjoy himself more. He had a 1-1 instructor who was very patient and kind, modeled the techniques on the sand prior to going into the water, and was very positive and encouraging with him.

This time last year he still wouldn't even let his head get wet in a swimming pool. Now I have bought him a boogie board and he has been able to spend a day at the beach with a neighbor boy playing in the water and learning to use it. I don't necessarily have the same beliefs as the group that ran the Surf Camp we attended, but I can't thank them enough for opening up a whole new world for my son and giving him the confidence and support to explore it!
