|
|
This is a story-written back in 1983-by a man named Dennis DeYoung, famous for his career in Styx. This story is where I found the name Kilroy (the album “Kilroy Was Here”)... So a Domo Arigato to you for reading this...The story of Kilroy.
if you don't want to read this blurb-watch this video
http://youtube.com/watch?v=b--lOyp45z4
------------------------------------
TH E P A S T "Dr. Everett Righteous, founder and leader of the MMM (the Majority for Musical Morality) became influential in American politics through the use of his own cable/TV network. He spoke about the evils of Rock 'N Roll Music and how its permissive attitudes were responsible for the moral and economic decline of America. He was charismatic, entertaining, and above all, he understood the media. The MMM soon gained enough power to have Rock N Roll banned."
"Robert Orin Charles Kilroy was a world famous Rock N Roll star. As this new law was passed, Kilroy and his band were finishing a national tour. Their last performance at the Paradise Theater would serve as the test case. On the night of the concert, as Kilroy played to a packed house, the MMM marched in and stormed the stage. When it was over, an MMM protester was dead. Kilroy was convicted of the murder and sent to a prison ship with other Rock N Roll misfits."
T H E P R E S E N T "... is a future where Japanese manufactured robots, designed to work cheaply and endlessly, are the caretakers of society. Mr. Roboto's are everywhere, serving as manual labor in jobs that were once held by humans."
"Dr. Righteous enforces his own morality by holding nightly rallies where crowds hurl Rock N Roll records and electric guitars into huge bonfires. Jonathan Chance, the rebel leader of an underground movement to bring back Rock N Roll, has made Kilroy the symbol of his cause. Meanwhile, Kilroy has spent a number of years in prison. With no hope of release, he is subjected to the humiliation of mind control via the MMM cable network. In an attempt to contact Kilroy, Jonathan jams the airwaves of the MMM network, replacing a mind control session with outlawed footage of a Kilroy concert. Inspired by Jonathan's message, Kilroy plots his escape. Late one night he makes a daring attempt to free himself by overpowering a Roboto guard. Disguised as a Roboto, Kilroy moves freely throughout the city leaving graffiti coded messages for Jonathan. Jonathan discovers the rock code which leads him to the old Paradise Theater, now the site of Dr. Righteous Museum of Rock Pathology. There he sees the last Kilroy concert mechanically depicted by Kilroy look alike robots as the violent end of Rock N Roll... and there he and Kilroy meet for the first time."
------------------------------------
Kilroy, I can't believe its really you! Johnathan exclaimed as he touched Kilroy's shoulder-almost checking if he was real. God its good to finally meet you Johnathan, I see you found my message about the Paradise Theater! Kilroy replied patting Johnathan's shoulder back. When I heard of the news that you escaped, I knew in my heart you seen i had jammed one of Rightious' TV shows, right? He asked, going to sit down on the stage. See it, you were the reason I broke out of there! All those months and years in that prison with those lousy robots and that greasy fried chicken-I never gave up hope. And when I heard your voice, I knew there was someone out there who cared. He said, looking out at the dark room. Well its not just me. Johnathan said standing up. God their's thousands of kids just like me who've had it up to here with this censorship crap-and they're ready to do something about it and do it now.
Kilroy looked back at Johnathan, a sense of worry in his eyes. Wait a second, if your gonna take Righteous on you better be prepared-because he doesn't play games. Kilroy replied, his hands on Johnathan's shoulders.
Johnathan smiled, and gave a slight chuckle. Oh I'm prepared alright their's no problem with that. Just tell me the truth though, did you kill this kid or what? He asked.
Kilroy seemed infuriated. I didn't kill anybody-that son of a bitch Righteous! He yelled walking over to a poster of Dr. Righteous on the wall. He sacrificed one of his own men to put the final stamp of evil on me and all of rock and roll! He said pulling the portrait off the wall.
Johnathan paused and stepped forward a bit. ...Well what really happened that night? He asked finally, both sitting down. I'll never forget it, rumour had it that Righteous and his men were going to raid the concert arrest me and everyone in the band. We didn't believe it-and we didn't care! We knew we had to take that chance...
Kilroy stood up, looking out at where the crowd would have been.
God...the crowd was so psyched, there was so much tension and excitement, that when JY started the show with his guitar solo...
The place went wild!
He stood there for a second, seemingly reliving the night in his head. Then what happened? Johnathan asked, putting his hand on his shoulder.
Kilroy let out a sigh...
Well you know the rest Johnathan, I was sent to prison and Righteous...He became more powerful. It started with the censorship of rock and roll-then it spread to books, and movies.
You see with him-it was never the music that was in question...It was always the freedom of expression.
Johnathan kicked the poster on the ground. Damnet, damnet! why does it always have to be way? Why can't we learn from the past? He said, looking at the torn poster of Dr. Righteous. Johnathan, we need to act-Righteous won't stop here. Rock and Roll is just the beginning. We need to stand up to him here and now! Kilroy replied, stepping off the stage. ...Well what do we do? Johnathan finally asked.
Rebellion-its high time for a rebellion! We have to show Righteous we won't just give in and accept his brainwashing! He declared, going for the door. Kilroy, I am head of a small organization at my school-maybe we can help you! Johnathan shouted running down the hall. Kilroy turned around and looked at Johnathan sternly. I never want to eat fried chicken again, you God damn better have some good men with you!
With that he left, Johnathan stood there for a second then went to the door. Before he even touched the handle Kilroy burst back in running back to the stage. Johnathan fallowed, confused, looking behind him. What's going on? He asked, running up to Kilroy. The MMM got your friend, they're coming for me-I'm not going back!
With that he kicked a hole in the wall and tore a piece away.

I should Google it, but I might have the wrong Kilroy...
But I do remember the album coming out. Heck, saw them about 2 years ago on tour.
The one I know of sprang up around dubya dubya two, often drawn with a cartoon character behind a sign. |

Hi Kilroy
All I know is that the original "Kilroy was here" face behind a sign thing orginated durning one of the wars that the Americans fought in (OH, that must mean almost ALL of them huh? ) It was something that the soliders drew but I can't remember why now. Oh well, just mostly wwanted to say "Hi Kilroy" _________________ Did I dream this belief, or did I believe this dream?
