Quote:
CHICAGO, Nov 7 (Reuters) - A drug commonly given to children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can help some autistic children with similar symptoms, researchers said on Monday.
Methylphenidate, sold as Ritalin by Novartis AG <NOVN.VX>

However, caregivers should be cautioned about the strong possibility of adverse effects."

Really, a strong possibility of adverse effects!
Who would have thought that?

If you crush Ritalin into a powder and snort it the effect is as powerful as cocaine, I've heard.
Personally I wouldnt advise taking it at all, I tried Ritalin and had insomnia bad, I couldnt sleep at all.

actually cocaine and speed are different things.

i'm on Dexedrine for ADD. it's an amphetamine. so is Ritalin. no side effects for me except temporary loss of appetite and some heart raciness occasionally. i also get tired if i don't eat enough. it's very safe and i'm pretty sure Ritalin is too since they're giving it to kids. i'd have been so lucky if i'd been put on it when i was a kid... would have helped me avoid a lot of mistakes.

also, it's not good to take if you don't have ADD. and you're not supposed to snort it.

do you have a link for that quote?

Oh go ahead snort it.
You might be one of the lucky ones that has no side effects.
It's like chocolate without the caffiene.
Same great taste, same great feel, but with all the nasty habit forming properties removed.

I did Cocaine once never did get hooked on thank god. It was a good trip though. I snorted it. I am glad I never did again. I also did Ritalin as a child in pill form too. It really didn't help me much taken off it less than six months after I was put on it.

I take Adderall. Some of the side effects are similar to cocaine (or so I've heard).

Ritalin eh? Helpful huh? Well hooray for sitting alone at the dinner table an hour after everyone else left to watch TV... and hooray for being 8 years old and awake at midnight! Rolling Eyes

I think its funny Squandered.
Ritalin amps the body with excess energy and gets the heart racing, this somehow balances the ADHD persons racing mind so that they appear and act more calmly and complacent.
For the non ADHD person, it's one heck of a dangerous rush without the chemically addictive properties of other amphetamines.

the ADD mind races because it actually goes slower, this causes a whirlwind inside ones head because there is too much stimulation and information and the brain can't process it all so fast. so when you take ADD meds it speeds up the brain so it can keep up. no it's not particularly healthy but it's something. it's a life saver for many.

and it's not anymore addictive than any other long-term medication.
