I am skeptical.
Once upon a time, there was this hippy folk singer girl who played at my venue a while back and she had a song about how children diagnosed with ADD were actually indigo children. She had been diagnosed and medicated for years and was singing about how ADD doesn't really exist and all the ADDers are actually indigo children...and afterwards I gently put in my two cents about how I had struggled with (what I concidered to be)ADD my entire life and had sought diagnosis and treatment as an adult...which was very difficult to come by...I had just wanted to offer a different perspective....You might think differently about something if you don't get help for it for it and it causes you to struggle with work and school and be alienated from other people your whole life...and blah blah blah...She was a beautiful, obviously privleged educated person who's parents had sought treatment for her when she was young....and while perhaps she was an "indigo child"...I certainly did not see myself as one.
My mom frequently like to call different people "indigo children"....my little cousin....Johanna Newsome.....any young talented person must obviously be an "Indigo Child"... |

They're only truly indigo if the spoiled little bastards can hold their breath long enough to actually turn blue.....
New Age/Unicorn Tapestry hanging/bead curtained doors/sitar playing/hippie rejects and their moon eyed kids... Yeah I saw aura's too... really did. Then I got medication for my constant migraines and I didn't see them anymore... These people who keep insisting on higher purposes and special magic powers... should just clear off the planet. They're making a hell of a mess with all their beaded curtains.

| fascinating. l seem to have a type of synesthesia that causes me to see a deep purpley blue. No other color but that shade. Its particulary nice in the dark because it pulses and begins as a tiny dot, then grows. When i am stressed, it does wonders to calm me down. |

You can easily be a crimson child. All you have to do is come up with some deeper meaning to your particular colour preference. Perhaps you could claim that it represents your spiritual need to give blood, thus spreading your aura around the world, and increasing global harmony.
Just an example. I'm sure we can come up with many others that are much more entertaining:)

| I would hate to be called a Crystal Child or Crystal Adult. It just new age stuff. The sooner new ager people start taking responsibility for their lives (eg reducing their carbon footprint) and not wait for an avatar, nor herald the next stage in evolution - the better. |

The new age book, CD, crystal, etc. market is huge. One of my close relatives is into it. She follows Esther Hicks who supposedly channels this entity, or collection of entities, called Abraham.
Each to her or his own.

It sounds like a parent's way of excusing spoiled brat behavior. Whether a child has a disabilty or not, that does a kid no favors.
This theory is as crackpot as the "refrigerator mother" theory in a former time, only now we've gone off the deep end the other way. The kid is hopeless, or the kid is special, on some higher plain. The child is a person in need of help. |

I am not a New Age follower but I find the some things interesting.
A women that I don't know very well, told me years ago that I have a purple aura. I know we all have auras, you can even take a picture of it. On one of the other polls most people on this site are Aquarians. Over the past two decades there has been a dramatic increase in people being born on the spectrum, whether it is because of increased awareness or whatever. In the Hindu religion, the aim is to activate the third eye chakra, the purple one. This religion is 1000s of years old. I see a pattern in all of this. Also the Earth will be moving into Acquarius around the year 2012. Is this all a coincidence?
People on the spectrum usually do not use their energy to play mind games with others (being social) - in fact we have trouble trying to do it. We live in our purist form, making great contributions to humanity. This is for me a sensible way for human evolution to be going. |

Yes, probably. Not able to see them for what they are, and not able to accept them that way. It feels like a fake label created by those who somehow have difficulty appreciating their children unless they stick some florid description to them. As if each child (especially ONE'S OWN CHILD) was not special to begin with.
I am not sure if the whole indigo thing had existed when I was little. But if it did, sure, there were probably some who thought I was "indigo" after seeing me talk to myself and ramble continuously and excitedly about flying saucers and being abducted by aliens. Except where one will think indigo, another will think "she must have been a little damaged during the birth trauma" or something to that extent.
Regarding the aura thing, I think it could have come from those people who have really marked synaesthesia and see whole colorful halos around others. Incidentally, many of these people also happen to think primarily in color associations, which they attach to people, feelings and just about anything else. For them there might be "yellow days", "green emotions", and, of course, "indigo people" (why not?). This is an interesting and special phenomenon and may greatly enhance one's creativity, but there is nothing whatsoever supernatural about it. |
