OK I can see you political theory is as developed as your biochemistry....
First-go read... a LOT. Start with The Federalist Papers. When you have a good grasp of the theory of the social contract reread what you wrote... The one thing you do NOT want is a society that's ruled by "survival of the fittest", because that means the most brutal killers RULE. Think Ghengis Khan with with automatic weapons, poison gas and nuclear munitions... Read some Jefferson, and some Franklin, then move on to other political systems. Ours isn't good, it's just the best that's been tried so far. Hopefully the current inhabitant of the White House hasn't done irreparable damage.
Obama has his good points. He has his bad points. Overall, his good ones outweigh his bad ones imho. Regardless, I will vote against McCain. A few years ago he made some good points, but in the past 2 years he's gone so far downhill it's unbelievable. Once he knelt down in homage to the Christian Right I found I could never support him. Heinlein pointed out more than once, no matter if you can't find someone you WANT to vote for, you can always find someone you want to vote AGAINST. The important thing is to VOTE. That's part of the social contract too, zendell. Voting is participating in the government. |
UTILITARIAN CRAP, John Locke was the guy who influenced the founding fathers with "social contract theory". :Barfs: Read "Genealogy of Morals" if you want a good rebuttal to all that Utilitarian nonsense. |
Zur Genealogie der Moral should be "taken with a grain of salt".
Nietzche was right about everything, and wrong about everything. Which is to say that one can't really take his word for anything. One has to think it through thouroughly.
This is really a matter of opinion more than of "facts" and "rebuttals". Some like to be "Free" more than they like to stay alive.
Some like to stay alive more than they like to be "Free".
Some are not quite sure.
And many change their minds, repeatedly.
Personally, I don't fully agree with utilitarianism. Results seem - currently - secondary to me.
According to the original statement, am I to understand that politicians are buying votes by increasing taxes? Don't most U.S. americans hate taxes? That may be a misconception fed by television, I suppose.
I like taxes. I have enough money, on the whole. Good infrastucture and free healthcare sounds nice. But that's just my opinion. _________________ Everyone loves the dolphin. A bitter shark - emerging from it's cold depths - doesn't stand a chance.

Vote Obama because he pronises you someone else' money. Idiots! If you want money for autism get a damned job and work for it anf give it to an autism society of your choice. Start a charitable group or servoce organization. Hold a yearly charitable event.
DO SOMETHING YOURSELF!
I am tired of A.erica stepping arse backward into full blown communism (from each according to his ability and to each according to his need) due to a binch of whining ninnies and their ever present demands for more of every one else' da.ned dollars.
Want health care? BUY IT!
Want money for autism research? EARN IT!
Want better treatment of autistic people? DO IT!

Well, I'm glad to see where the candidates stand on this issue as, I've never thought too much about the Clinton campaign on such.. _________________ It is a good viewpoint to see the world as a dream. Exactly how I feel. I wish we could have Ron Paul as our president. He would set things straight. People who want communism should move to Cuba or North Korea. |

Zendell and Bozewani,
You two are a breath - a couple of breaths - of fresh air!

Unfournately, Communism is dead and those two countries are already have enough economical problems because of Communism itself. _________________ "We swore one day to build the future with our own hands

Obama is the only one who can beat McCain anyway.
He has qualities of Lincoln and both Kennedys inside his character and political background so a very good choice for president. _________________ "We swore one day to build the future with our own hands

I support Obama now because of this and because he is the transition of the leaders of our parents generation and the leaders of ours. That and he is democrat meaning he wont be like bush making his decision based on religious belifes. Also I he will resolve the sins of our fathers and reverse global warming so we dont inherit a world half underwater or like frontlines fuel of wars depiction of the future with increased poverty and other problems. Also that he could resolve the middle east issues and also find bin laden because he is not gonna take anymore of crap pakistans give us especially after losing Bhuto the women who could of been ours and the middle easts savior. Then finally stop Iraq an tell the iraqi government to step up to the plate or were leaving and create a government ruled by both sunni's,shiites and kurds and not take Irans crap because they neeed to learn that nuclear proliferation leads to nothing but misery and hurts the nation that has the nukes than anyone else. That and Banish No Child left Behind to another dimension for crimes against humanity. _________________ Everythings the same I am still cant sleep and still hate school. |

JFK wouldn't follow those orders from the Pope because the USA is mostly made up of Christian Protestants. Also The Revered of Obama's church is a radical so it doesn't mean he is as well nor he is racist by any means either. _________________ "We swore one day to build the future with our own hands

While I would love to see a change of demographics in the presidency, and it's nice Obama realizes the importance of autism, I'm still a little wary about him. My issue is that he hasn't gotten around to explaining exactly how he's going to pay for all his social welfare programs. Letting the recent tax cuts expire will pay for some, but won't nearly cover the cost of universal Healthcare. Universal Healthcare could force taxes up to extreme amounts. And if it's not implemented properly it could cause some serious problems. There's a reason why Canadians who can afford it come to the U.S. for treatment even when Canada has universal healthcare.
It all eventually boils down to a simple question. What's more important? freedom or security. In this case it's security of healthcare in exchange for the freedom to spend part of your income how you choose. How many freedoms are you willing to give up in other areas to ensure other forms of security? There is the middle ground but you must be sure to not drift one way or the other if you choose to take it.
The United States seems to be drifting towards increased security. People are afraid, but let up hope people realize what's happening before we end up in a totalitarian government of our own creation. _________________ The improbable goal: Fear nothing, hate nothing, and let nothing anger you. |
