today i read an article about the increased number of female characters that have cartoons of their own, that are portrayed as beautiful but also as smart professionals. some of the cartoons deal with the characters every day lives.
they are not barbie shaped, some of them are curvier (powerpuff girls example of this)
examples of female stars include kim possible, powerpuff girls, lilo from lilo and stitch etc etc.
these characters show that girls can be strong and do not have to just look good for the boys.

I like this whole idea.. what are your opinions?

I also like this idea, as well. I remember watching Wonder Woman on TV, when I was little. That was one of my favourite shows. I also remember the movie, Supergirl. It's a shame, that this movie didn't have any sequels. I think that it's good, that there are cartoons, shows and movies, that have strong female characters, who can fend for themselves. My personal favourite, is Rita from 'Flushed Away'. :O) I was never into Laura Croft, because I was never really into war, though.

What about Lindsay Wagner as the Bionic Woman? Why should the Million Dollar Man get all the excitement?

Kim Possible is a very realistic character because although she is a superhero, she has real problems like her pesty brothers and Bonnie.

I use to get addicted to that show The Power Puff Girls. Whatever happened to that show? I thought it was hilarious. Anyone else remember it?

I loved the show, though Bubbles was really annoying (tiny dumb blond in the making).

The only role models I had growing up were from comics and sci-fi like Ripley, Tank Girl, Durham Red, and Venus BlueGenes, from 2000AD.

I love the Hellsing women. All of them are portrayed as being strong, independent and able to kick serious tail.

Small rant about Hellsing fandom:
I get really pissed off whenever fans portray Integra as being overly-feminine, weak or loving towards Alucard in their fanart and fanfics. Integra is androgynous and strong, and doesn't let Alucard push her around. Fans should respect that.
