The four-year investigation into the antidepressant drug Seroxat by the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) looks like it will have one positive outcome: changes in the law to make drug trials more transparent.
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), which makes Seroxat, is alleged to have known since 1998 from its own trials that the drug, also known as Paxil, failed to alleviate depression and could increase suicidal tendencies among under 18s. The MHRA was not informed of this till May 2003. GSK denies withholding data, claiming the risks did not come to light until the results of nine studies were pooled.
The MHRA's report, published on 6 March, has led to renewed calls for the compulsory registration of clinical trials. Negative results would therefore be there for all to see.
Dawn Primarilo, the UK's public health minister, promised to amend UK law accordingly and to seek a strengthening of corresponding European legislation. "Notwithstanding the limitations that may exist in the law, pharmaceutical companies should disclose any information they have that would have a bearing on the protection of health," she says. |

Glaxo's greatest triumph to date in the "getting away with it" category has been with AZT. AZT turns your genetic code into white noise by random substitution of thymine with azidothymine. The best result that you can get from that is a cell that doesn't replicate, which means that nothing repairs itself, not blood vessels or immune system components. It is used to victimize people who are HIV positive.
Thymine is one of four bases that make up your nuclear DNA and your mitochondrial DNA.

huh? Color me lost.
If AZT did that, I think you'd be pretty much dead in short order. I'm sure there's more to it than that. |

You would think there would be, but there isn't. The victim's lifespan is roughly according to the dosage. Cut back the dosage of AZT while adding relatively benign but useless chemical to the mix, you have a "miracle drug cocktail that saves lives" because suddenly AZT victims are living 10 to 15 years instead of 5.

I forgot to mention that AZT was approved after faulty drug trials. That's 21 years of illicit profits for GSK, which didn't have the same name then.
