| I remember when I was young I had trouble pronouncing words like twelve. I had trouble mixing up words that began with "R" or "W" like Right and White. I would say right but it would sound like white. |

| I had speech-therapy when i was in kindergarden. I still have problems speaking till this day. Its like i fall over my own words and i forget what im about to say. |

I have done alot of Damien's speech therapy myself. He is also in a group at school to help with his communication and interaction.
There are some words which he can't say properly, picnic is one. he says it pikmic sounds so cute but I gently correct him.
He also gets words muddled up. He use to say "please I can have" instead of "can I please have".
But he is doing VERY well considering he didn't really start talking till he was 3.5-4 years  |

I had speech therapy for several years, but I assumed it was because I was bilingual. But maybe not. I don't know--I can't ask my parents because I don't get along with them.

Yeah, back in elementary school, but I can't remember if it was kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd Grade.

I had speech therapy as a child. I don't remember when exactly - the memories have become quite murky by now, - but I think I was not in school yet, or in grade one, because we were still living at my grandparents' place (we moved when I was around eight years old). At that time I could already speak allright, but I had difficulty pronouncing certain sounds, like the rolling Russian "r" (I made it a guttural "h" sound, what my mother called a disturbingly Jewish pronunciation) or the "l" sound (which I pronounced as "w"). For example, I would pronounce the word "yamki" ("little pits") the same as "lyamki" ("suspenders").
All I can remember is lying on my back on the couch in a dimly lit office. The speech therapist would place some sort of wooden ball on a handle inside my mouth, behind the tongue, and asked me to blow out the air with as much force as I could, so that a resounding "thrrrrrrr" sound would be produced. I had to do it again and again until I was dizzy with hyperventilation. I can recall just lying there and wishing it were over sooner (the sessions must have seemed endles to me), while listening to my mother and the speech therapist chatting energetically about this or that.
The speech therapy did help - I learned to pronoune "r" the proper way, and I started to pronounce "l" after soft vowels, but I still cannot pronounce it after hard vowels up to this day. |

| When I first started school on the east coast USA many people thought I needed speech therapy. They felt silly when someone pointed out the fact that half the time I was not speaking english, but cajun/creole.After that,I had much fun at their expense |

We didn't have it my school growing up, which kinda suprises me. The reason being is I am from Newfoundland, and anyone who has visited knows of owr unique way of talking.
When it comes to words, the most commen thing you hear from us is we don't pronounce 'h' when we talk, and sometimes add 's' at the end of a sentence, like this
"Look ere' I's wants to talk da ways you talks"
our grammer is aweful too, the above sentence would mean 'I want to talk like you'

| I had speech therapy in second grade, I don't remember much about it or why, but I remember being told to click my tongue against my teeth like horses' hooves clopping; I guess that stayed with me because I was absolutely horse crazy at the time. But then I had a lot of therapy that I really didn't understand the purpose of. You see, when you are a child, especially a child with developmental disabilities, you are considered dumb and incapable of understanding so there is no need to explain anything to you. You just do as you are told and if you can't because you don't understand it that is all the proof needed that you really are dumb. So no need to explain, just a waste of time. |

I had trouble with certain consonants and long words, but no speech therapy.
In elementary school I managed to avoid every embarrassing word other than locomotive. We talked about locomotives sometime in elementary school and it was a deeply humiliating experience to hear everyone laugh. And getting punished for 'being stupid'. I'd say something like 'locomototototo...' I didn't manage to say it.
I still have to speak clearly and slowly or else my speech is slurred. |

| I had speech therapy in elementary school -- if I remember correctly, I was placed in speech therapy during 3rd or 4th grade. The reason for the therapy was that I had a bad lisp. I was able to get that corrected through the therapy. |

I was in a class that I'd previously thought was for speech therapy, since I had a bit of trouble pronunciation wise with j's and z's among other things, but when I went to check my records the secretary said I wasn't listed for that, and that the records were too old to be checked farther. As I don't remember anything but getting taken out of class to a smaller room to read aloud and to play hangman with candy as a reward, I assume it was for socialization.
