What is your first name? Wendy
Age: 48
Location: California
Hobbies and Interests: collecting and creating dragon art, writing stories in my head, (and occasionally writing them down) drawing, building a fictional world and writing books about it, unusual weather, meteorology, hiking and biking (when my joints aren't acting up) being on the internet, learning about Vanagon campers for the day I might own one, watching Dr. Who, watching a few anime series like Bleach and Rurouni Kenshin, road travel, military jets like the C-5 Galaxy and the F-100 Super Saber, airports, listening in on Air Traffic Control at local airports(via the internet), keeping up my mint condition '85 Grand Marquis, animals, zoology, geology, rock collecting, reptiles, camping, RVs, national parks, the desert, and so forth.
Why are you here? Wanted to find a place where I can be myself AND be accepted, and understood-- well, at least more often than not.
When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): I don't remember exactly when, a few years back while my kids were getting treatment for special needs and accommodations at school, and I was getting treated for clinical depression, which cleared up once I understood why I am the way I am. Then I did some research on the net, ran the "I believe I have Asperger Syndrome" idea past the neuro-psychologist who was treating my son, though he also dealt with my daughter and myself, and after doing a survey, or something equivalent, he agreed, and wrote it in my profile.
Now that I've embraced my Aspieness, and gotten permanently away from people who were controlling and emotionally abusive, (like my mother, my ex husband, and my so called best friend), my depression is gone. I still have anxiety and such but I know it's biochemical as in hormonal imbalances on occasion, and I take a lot of nutritional supplements to alleviate the symptoms. I did very badly on medication, so I went a more holistic avenue, which is better for me.
Favorite subjects: History, art, creative writing, philosophy and religion, and some kinds of psychology.
Year/Grade: I graduated high school in 1978, on a naval base in Spain. Went to SUNY New Paltz two years, and then School of Visual Arts in NYC, for 2 years.
Favorite music: depending on my mood: Mozart, Japanese pop, ethnic, new age ambient, classic rock from the 60s-80s, and such.
Books: Tolkien's LotR, (read it countless times), Silmarillion, read twice and plan to read again, The Redwall series, Harry Potter series, Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series (read Dragonquest when I was 13) various nonfiction books, depending on what I want to research for my novels, the Bible (daily, and I've read the entire thing, generally every year or so), and some commentaries/studies on the Bible.
TV shows/Movies: Project Runway, (reminds me of being in art school) Bleach, Dr. Who, Highlander(movies and TV series), Kung Fu (both old and new series) Deadliest Catch (TV series on Discovery channel, I think) Crocodile Hunter and related, (I MISS STEVE!!!) Nature, Masterpiece Theater, Upstairs Downstairs, Jane Austin BBC movies, Long Way Round, Long Way Down (Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman ride their motorcycles around the world) History Channel, some tech and car stuff, like Top Gear and Mythbusters... so much more to list, though I don't watch TV or movies very often, my attention span is sometimes too short)
Instrument: the vocal chords. I've been in chorus in school, and sing hymns during worship services. That's about it for me. I've always wanted to pay the violin, but my parents would no get me lessons or an instrument, because I likely would lose interest. The guitar hurt my fingers, and the piano lessons were confusing. I wanted to compose my own stuff, instead. I played the recorder ( a type of flute) for a while, in elementary school.
Do you like sports? I like watching Olympic downhill skiing and speed skaintg, some bicycle racing, vanagon racing on youtube, classical equestrian dressage. the occasional soccer game on TV. Sports I'd like to actually do again (if I weren't so creaky and financially poor), is mountain biking, horseback riding, sailing, and I would like to go back into martial arts. Otherwise, it's walking, and occasional short hikes. I have a cross country road bike and a downhill mountain bike, but haven't been up to riding much at all nowadays, due to Chronic Fatigue.
Family: my two grown up kids.
Clothing: whatever is comfortable and doesn't make me itch!
How did you find this website? I'd known about it for a while, but can't remember how I first found out about it. Probably through another list, or a search engine.
Job: I wish I had a steady job, but I'm on disability, and I'm just no employable. Too scatterbrained, and not enough energy. Occasionally still do freelance illustration, but I'm mostly working for myself, now, writing novels, and creating concept art for my worldbuilding.
Plans for the future? Getting my novels published, and illustrations done! Hopefully the first one will be completed and published by the end of this year.
Any comments? I really enjoy being here. There's a great variety of people from different places, different ages, and with different opinions, and I've been treated well, so far. _________________ Never assume you know what I'm thinking, just ask for clarification.

Family:
One sister who i never see, my niece who i love to bits but dont get to see much because we live really far away, mother and gran i also dont see much thanks to distance.
Clothing:
I generally wear clothes that fit. What how else do you answer this question? I dunno i wear jeans, combats and t-shirts.
How did you find this website?
I stumbled onto an article about aspergers syndrome on wikipedia and that pointed me here.
Job:
Web Developer that codes primarily in XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL.
Plans for the future?
No idea in honesty, always wanted to go in the army, long history of it in my family, not so worried about the socialising aspect of it as thats not what i wanted to do it for but considering I might have OCD i have to confirm that one way or another first as i cant join the army if i do, in which case i have no idea, probably continue in the job im in.
Any comments?
Cue mind going blank. |
