I just discovered something exciting about the usefulness of trampolines in exercise and thought I'd post it here.

Who would have thought they would be such a good workout? I saw them at the store for only $17 and thought they looked like fun, but not especially useful. I found that I couldn't stop thinking about getting one, so I looked them up to see if there were any fitness benefits. And look what I found…..

"Research has led some scientists to conclude that jumping on a mini-trampoline is possibly the most effective exercise yet devised by man, especially because of the effect rebounding has on the lymph in the body."

It's supposed to help with depression as well. Here are some links:

I guess I'll surely get one this weekend!
Boing boing boing boing boing boing boing boing boing……

Heheee....

The best exercise are those that get your heart pumping...considered aerobic exercises. Such include outdoor cycling, stationary
cycling, walking, cross-country skiing, swimming, jogging among others and the point is to increase your metabolism, lower your body's set point thereby decreasing the amount of body fat you store.

I don't know if I could take all that jumping up and down for the time period it takes to make such exercise on a trampoline
worthwhile...I might throw up.

i like it because you can do it while watching television...so I end up using the tv as an incentive to exercise....likesay I will only allow myself to watch one of the cartoons I am addicted to if I am jumping on the trampoline while I do it.

My only problem right now, is that I do not have access to a shower where I live and all the jumping makes me muggy and sweaty pretty fast...so that has been my excuse for not doing it...i have been riding my bike though

I have found that some rebounders are better than others, and you might do yourself wise to invest in a nicer one. The one I currently have was less than $20 at Wal Mart, instead of springs, it has elastic bands....I like the spring resistance much better...and I assume the elastic will certainly wear out faster...

I like the BIG trampolines better, but they're hard to fit into a house! Shocked

One of the good things about trampolines is that you are not concentrating on a single muscle group, but all the supportive one too.

Just watch out for low ceilings! Twisted Evil

If a trampoline will get you exercising then i say go for it. I know that the workouts you linked to wouldn't give me a sufficient workout because they're too short. I generally do over 5hrs of cardio a week (more if i'm working, if i go for a long bike on the weekend, or if it's the rowing season).

one thing to remember though is that weight loss won't happen without a good diet. if you're overeating then exercise won't magically drop pounds.

Correct. Weightloss is 80% dependant on diet and 20% on exersize. My mother is a personal trainer and told me this. Eating 6 small meals a day instead of 3 large ones, helps to keep your metabolism high, there for burning more fat. It also increases concentration as a bonus!

If the goal isn't to lose weight, but just to increase fitness...then adding a healthy diet is sure something to do if you haven't done so already.

As far as mini-trampolines go...I used to have one when I was a young child. Now I don't use it, as when I jump on it, I feel as if my head is going to fall off my neck! Laughing

I don't know about fitness, but trampolines are excellent for stimming.

I'd like to get a small trampoline, that I can jog on.
