So, as of yesterday, whenever I hit "return" while writing a post on this site, it opens a new window and it goes to this URL:
http://www.ask.com/?o=8167
Yes, ask.com. I never use that site. I don't have it bookmarked. It's not my home page. In fact, I've never navigated to that site on this computer with the exception of this bug.
Since it started, I have tried posting in other forums that I visit and it doesn't happen there. Then I go back here and it happens again. Sometimes it doesn't happen in the first post or two, but then it starts again.
I'm using Safari Version 3.1. I've checked the settings and they're normal. I'm using an encrypted wireless network. My OS is Tiger. (And yes, it happened 8 times during this post.)

Exact same thing has happened to me, too-a while back & again recently. Didn't mention it because I didn't see thread or post by anyone else saying it had happened to them-and problem was intermittent (came & went erratically). Happens when there's an ask.com ad bopping around (image moves annoyingly) along side or bottom of WP page.

I use Safari 1.3.2 & OS Panther (upgrading too expensive & confusing). _________________ *"You cannot administer a wicked law impartially-it destroys everyone it touches, its violators as well as its upholders."* |

Huh. Yeah, I just noticed that ask.com ad. One would think that I was accidentally clicking on the ad. But if that were the case, it wouldn't happen EVERY time I hit the "return"/"enter" key. It hasn't been intermittent for me. Once it starts, it is very predictable.
So it only happens on this site for you too, Belfast? |

Yes-just here. Nowhere else has that ad (so far as I've noticed)-I only go to a few places online with any regularity, but WP is only place that often has ads that cause me problems.
Only guess (from my clueless non techie brain) is that sometimes my cursor/mouse gets clicked on in an area outside the posting box (though not on the ad), but still on the browser window area. Then, I don't realize the cursor/mouse are now "located" outside the "post reply" box, and I keep typing my comment. When I hit return, that command isn't "perceived" as being in relation to where I'm typing-so the ad pops open its own window. I tend to leave my mouse sitting elsewhere than over where I'm writing (since it's distracting)-and if I accidentallly hit it (even though it's not on the ad), anywhere outside the reply box "counts" as opportunity/trigger for the ad to do its thing.
Did that make any sense (hard to explain in words & I can't show visually what I mean) ?
Am not certain it works this way, just a possibility. _________________ *"You cannot administer a wicked law impartially-it destroys everyone it touches, its violators as well as its upholders."* |

| Yes, it made sense, but when it happens to me, it doesn't matter where the cursor is. I've experimented with that. |
