Just do all of your work in an algebraic extension of the integers Smile Then a lot of numbers stop being prime.

*sorry, inner math geek coming out*

obligatory explanation: suppose you take the integers and toss in, say, sqrt(5). Then 5 is no longer prime, since 5 = sqrt(5)*sqrt(5), and it turns out that a whole lot of other numbers stop being prime as well, like 11 = (4 + sqrt(5))*(4 - sqrt(5)). Turns out that depending on which square root you toss in, different primes "stay" prime and others can be factored.

now return to your regularly scheduled thread Shocked

This is some good stuff.

Thats true Wolphin, But when it comes to things like e-mail messages-how do you define Sqrt(5) messages? Or ANY non-integer quantity of such??

My favourites are 9, 99 and 999.

That's the beauty, how often do you come across sqrt(5) in daily life? You can't possibly have a email message with sqrt(5) characters in it.

That way, you don't have to deal with primes as much Smile

Ugh, I know exactly how you feel. I've always felt uncomfortable about prime/odd numbers. For example, my imaginary world has to have an even number of characters organized into pairs. That's the way it's always been. I've tried changing it up a bit (having odd numbers of characters, not putting them in pairs...) but it just doesn't fly with me.
