| Would it help to make our cause more well known to heurotypical?, would this help? would we have to give up who we are? |

How exactly would you go about giving up who you are?
And what, specifically is our "cause" if it isn't some sort of comprehension and acceptance of our differences by the NT community? _________________ "I don't mean to sound bitter, cynical or cruel - but I am, so that's how it comes out."

A hollywood movie with really big stars about people with Asperger's. That's about the only thing I can think of.
It works, EVERYBODY knows about Rain Man. We just nesd the aspie version. |

Raymond Babbit , though he's referred to as "high functioning" in the script, never seemed very high functioning to me. If you gave that guy an apartment and left him alone for a month, he'd starve, because he'd never leave it to go to the grocery store. Just because he can bathe and dress himself doesn't qualify as high functioning in my book. _________________ "I don't mean to sound bitter, cynical or cruel - but I am, so that's how it comes out."

Well it's been a long time since I watched it, but wasn't he basically an idiot-savant? Not really functional, couldn't manage in the "real" world even with lots of help, highly autistic I would think.
He went WAY beyond just having a social interaction type problem. |

There is an Aspie version of Rain Man, it is Mozart and the Whale. You can order the DVD on Wal-Mart's website. I saw the movie and it is really good and it has a more realistic view on autism than Rain Man. _________________ "Support, love, and acceptance"

Indeed. But I wouldn't class it as a Hollywood blockbuster.
It just seems that most people, and I'm not even talking about NT's specifcaly, choose to remain ignorant on stuff that makes them feel uncomfortable, or that doesn't impact them in their personal life, or lives of the celebreties they worship.
I'm content enough that there is enough information about the Autism spectrum out there once a person has the incentive to look.
My only wish would be for less biased or incorect information |
