has anyone had any success with applying for grants for such things as housing or health care?

How would one apply for such a thing?

do they really work?

Grants from whom? The government? I'd suggest contacting your local Disability Services agency to discuss that with them and see what kinds of support you can get, perhaps as part of a Medicare Waiver program, if your state has them. It's usually not through a grant process so much as an entitlement or a waiting list process - though sometimes there are grants available for specific things. Just don't purchase some form of internet-advertised "Guide to Government Grants" or "Free Government Grants" guide that amounts to the same info you'd get from calling the government agency, except costs much more.

I'v been able to get my daughter specific things w/ grants for the last 2 years thru one of the foundations here.
You have to apply for the grant and one of their requirements is a letter from a Dr. or a therapist to show a speciific need for whatever your applying for.
As for living expenses all I'v ever heard of is the waiting list (which in Alaska is currently about 10 years long)

It's not as if there's a predetermined limit in the Government budget, is there?

No, I know there isn't. But it still makes me feel bad.

Sorry ... Only NT's get grants and stuff for Autistics.

All funding for Autistics goes to NT's, first; then they decide who to give it to based on how well you can fill out multiple forms that you can't understand and write essays that make no sense, and MOST OF ALL ...

I'm not sure what you mean. Grants from whom? There is govt agency assistance, but I don't think its actual grant money. I have received some assistance from Voc Rehab for having multiple disabilities; however, I don't get SSI because I am working. I have heard of many grants from Autism groups, but what angers me about that is they give them out willy nilly even to people with no diagnosis of Autism. An official diagnosis of being on the spectrum should be a requirement for any assistance given out for autism.
