Here's why:

I nearly have no friends/totally suck at social skills.
I can't always keep up with my schoolwork.
I can't get a girlfriend.
Nobody understands me and my personality.
Also, if you were at my school, they don't seem to like people me :(

..and some other stuff I'm not really in the mood to tell about.

Simply put (alot) more concentration on socializing. Find excuses to talk to people, etc...

Ever watch The Big Bang Theory? That show made me feel ALOT better about myself! :P

EDIT: Jerry Springer helps too, but no intelligent conflict funnehs is involved like The Big Bang Theory. :P

You would be surprised how many of these problems plague neurotypicals as well. Everyone feels outcast and misunderstood sometimes. A neurotypical can certainly fall behind on school work even if for a different reason, like not being as smart as an autistic.
Also, most of the relationships you see around you are pretty shallow and worthless.
Keep pushing through life.

The school years are the worst. Just wait till you can go to college. You are more likely to fare better there, because there are clubs and things that will attract like minded people. And in college, you are not forced to participate in things you don't want to.

Part of the problem is he is living in North Carolina. I grew up in Tenn., so I know how backwards and unaccepting people are in the South. The best you can do is study as hard as you can, get into a college out West where people are not as closeminded. I know you can do it because I did it and I'm nothing special. Its worth the effort to escape the deep South.

This coming from someone who is treating their visits to the psychiatrist as though it's a stepsister of Cinderella trying to get the glass slipper to fit.

Please knock it off. Where do you get the idea that "true" aspies don't care about getting girlfriends. You are so full of it.

I've never visited a psychiatrist. I'm not NT enough to understand your metaphor. (Or perhaps your metaphor simply doesn't make sense.)

Themidnight judge is RIGHT! I have the SAME problems as you, but here is MY reaction:

I nearly have no friends/totally suck at social skills.

Is anyone REALLY good? One person here said SHE is, but she should look up sycophant! And my definition of friend is just too strict. I don't really know if I have any now. One guy acted like a close friend of mine a couple months ago(though I wasn't fooled), and NOW he is trying to ridicule me, slander/libel me, harass me, and get me fired. He is trying to destroy my career. Surprisingly, he is making a lot of mistakes real quick, and giving me lots of evidence to retaliate! He probably doesn't know the meaning of that word, and may find it out the hard way. 8O I never considered HIM a friend, but it shows how you sometimes have to be CAREFUL! BTW, I was not the only one he tried this with.

I can't always keep up with my schoolwork.

Well, I was BORED with a lot, and some stuff comes to me so fast that I LITERALLY end up explaining it to the "teacher"! My mother sent me a news clipping about how they have gotten rid of word problems in some areas! I wish they did when I was at school!

I can't get a girlfriend.

I HATE this, and it is the part I hate the most. Sadly though, good people are RARE, and I would want a REAL GIRLFRIEND! Do you know how much NT people pay to get married sometimes!?!?

Nobody understands me and my personality.

C'est la vie! SAME HERE!

Also, if you were at my school, they don't seem to like people me

Well, I went to MANY schools. In nursery school, and kindergarten I think I KIND of did a little ok, because people were less autonomous, and I was altruistic. Still, I remember that in nursery school I was a bit off. Some of my memories are like 180 degrees from how I am. In first grade, I believe I was merely teased, but the school asked that I go to a psychiatrist, because I wasn't socializing. By second grade, they got ROUGH!

..and some other stuff I'm not really in the mood to tell about.

I might just know what you mean!_________________

I agree. Disenrolling out of HS & into the city college was the greatest thing that has since happened to me! :P

I started sleeping hours less, I don't feel like s**t, etc. Damn I hated that gated public school from hell...

oh for heaven's sake...I live in NC, and it hasn't caused me any problems. There's parts that are even probably a good place to check out; Research Triangle Park; where I work, is 100,000 scientists studying cutting edge in all sorts of things...gotta be a few of us floating around in all that brain power...;)

You can find rednecks anywhere...;)

MW99 you're full of crap. Many aspies long for friends, or at least the idea of them. I am so SICK of this "you're not a true aspie" rubbish. It is a SPECTRUM disorder, and that means not everyone is affected the same way. Do you really think you're so much better than someone else because you're "more" autistic than them??? Get a life pal, and if you don't have something supportive to say to someone reaching out for help...a KID no less...then get lost.

roygerdogger: Hang in there buddy. Everyone feels like that, even NTs, it's just a little harder for us Aspies

Bull-fucking-shit. That pretty much sums it up. I've sunk a lot of time recently into improving those areas, and I don't mentally wear myself out like that just on a whim. Some Aspies might not need those things. For a while, I was content being isolated. However, many need to have friends and love just as much as anyone, if not more. As I am doing, many Aspies change over time. There's no set of rules for what a "True Aspie" does. That's ridiculous.

roygerdodger, About people not liking your type, the high school atmosphere by its nature does not accommodate people like us. I know that it's very difficult to deal with now, but when you get out of there soon, none of the as*holes or their opinions will matter. In my experience, people in the real world are much more respectful toward those who are different. The ones that don't wise up after high school might end up in prison, or working for peanuts in which case you can come back and laugh at them. :D

Not true, unless half the guys in the Love and Dating forum who are DIAGNOSED WITH ASPERGER SYNDROME and not "true Aspies".
