I can't stand that, whenever I google for more information about Aspergers, read books - ask people, whenever I hear about Aspergers I tend to hear more fiction that truth.
No; just because I have Aspergers I am not a serial killer. I am not diseased. I don't need a cure, I am not violent due to my physiology, I don't intrinsically hate women, I don't hate children, I'm not suicidal, and no - Aspergers did not disappear magically when I became an adult. Oh, and my favourite - Aspergers is most definitely NOT caused by global warming, Jesus or vaccinations!
Anybody else irritated at seemingly increasing neurotypical idiocy? |

I love the idea of AS being caused by Jesus!
Let's not forget the "90% of people who say they have AS don't" myth that's so very popular.
What gets me is the "well, I once met/knew/heard of/read about a person with AS and you're not like him/her." _________________ Do I look like a freaking people person? |

I don't love that idea. It's as stupid and untrue as all the Aspie myths. |

I continue to hear of NT parents wanting to cure, change there children if only they knew they are the ones causes there own children so much unnecessary suffering, no wonder the children get so frustrated and angery... and then the parents drug the children because they can not cope!
and then there is all the fad treatments, if all that wasted time, money and energy went into raising awareness and understanding there would be a lot less ignorant people in the world and maybe then us aspie would be allowed to just be our selves.. _________________ "Believe in your self, we are who we are - as it can feel like an endless task trying to be someone else!" I really hate this, when I hear people talk about AS or autism in general I always yell in my mind "that's not true!" _________________ Humans are intelligent, but that doesn't make them smart. |

How about:
You look so normal, you can't have THAT.
But you don't rock or spin things.
Aspies cannot communicate.
Aspies don't show emotion.
But you're married and have kids...
A million and one...but let's not hate all NT's...my partner is NT and is the most understanding and doesn't assume anything. |

Probably the same person who would kick up a fuss if you said that "All blacks/chinese/poles/whatever are the same."

My "ex" GP, who claimed to know what aspergers(not autism)was...told me that I wasn't one because I could communicate. She was really angry when I still insisted on getting a specialist opinion with her referral.
So, it's not just the ignorance that bothers me but the anger you face when trying to dispel their ignorance.
Considering how the media and Autism Speaks continues to perpetuate mis-information, you can't really blame people for their lack of knowledge, (I just blame them for their lack of intellectual curiosity in general). _________________ Just because one plane is flying out of formation, doesnt mean the formation is on course....R.D.Lang

Yea. It bugs me when people lump the entire autistic spectrum into one category. They simply don't realize that many symptoms are often simply a difficulties, not inabilities.
So while it might be harder for us to make friends it doesn't mean we can't make friends. _________________ The improbable goal: Fear nothing, hate nothing, and let nothing anger you. |
