What are some things that positive that have happened as a result of being AS? |

When I need to learn something and it's a high interest that I really want to learn it makes it easier.

I am obsessed with order, logic, structure and coding, and when I focus on a problem or design element I can spend up to 12 hours at a time working on it, without being even remotely distracted (eventually, of course, I have to visit the facilities).
It's a huge asset for me as a software specialist, because these quirks are exactly what is needed to design and build data systems.
I can't complain about getting a fat salary to obsess!

I'm still looking for that fat salary job... *jealous*
It helps me a lot because I spent a lot of time alone as a kid... makes me less upset when someone is a wipe, cause then I just... kinda don't care.
And I get along with nearly everyone I meet. Probably just because people like to be friendly to friendly people, I suppose.
And I am very good at seeing what isn't there. I can look at a couple of different things and tell how they will fit and work together. Whats the real life application in that besides saving movers time though? |

Advantages:
* being able to spend time alone
* put more effort into things than ordinary people would
* having a different way of seeing things,
The last thing can also be a disadvantage, since I always think from multiple angles. |

A broad general knowledge base, developed over time from my various special interests
Good organizational skills
A good vocabulary
A love of animals |

1. Being able to be alone I guess
2. Having a strong bond with animals. I just noticed there are animal lovers on this site which surprised me.
3. Viewing things differently. I'm not really a facts and logics person so can't identify with being "smart" I guess I lean more towards the creative side.
4. Loyalty, I don't know if that's an aspie trait though.
There's much more than listed, but sometimes I don't know which ones would be considered aspie traits and which ones wouldn't. I just see myself as a person like any NT only with symptoms of AS.

well, i like that I don't feel like i must conform to everyones rules: you must get a car, a girlfriend, go to prom, go to parties, get drunk, get high, or else no one will thnk your cool or normal.
one of my obssesions is reading:trying to find a new and interesting book can be a chalange sometimes though.
i have a large vocabulary second only to my mom.
i like animals like others here, but not ALL animals just certain kinds.
one thing that i like is that knowing when someone asks me what happened during some event that i'll tell the truth(i just cant lie, i'm not very good at it)
my ordered lists, I like to plan thing ahead of time(it may not always work out but normally my plans tend to stick to the basics of my lists, with only a few hiccups getting in the way here and there)
being able to spot things most other people overlook. |

1) My creativity is very dear to me. I would give up an arm before I gave up that ability.
2) I can hyper-focus on something and if it is something important to me, I can get it done quickly, and with high quality.
3) I am alone a lot. I know I can make it alone. Not until I got older did I realize there are people who can not handle being alone. I see it as an advantage to survive.
4) I make a plan. I make a back-up plan to the first plan. I make a alternate back-up to the first plan. I re-design the first plan to make it more efficient. I redesign the back-up and alternate plans to make them more efficient. This takes no effort usually. Actually, it is fun for me.
5) I can see things and picture them in my mind on how to improve the efficiency of their operation.
6) Being hyper sensative to sounds I can memorize how different people walk and know who is coming down the hall before I see them.
7) IF I am mentally prepared for it, I can spot small flaws in items I may want to purchase. That is if I am prepared for it. My mind is usually somewhere else thinking of things that don't even exist, so sometimes I purchase something and not realize it has a flaw.
 Talking bluntly without the mind/body language games can make it hard for those that do use those as "tools" in their interactions with humans. This has actually protected me from some bullying. The blank look on my face when all I said was, "No," gave the impression I wanted to fight, when in fact I was caught off guard and just did an awkward (to me) reply to a bully who was trying to antagonize me. After my initial reaction of "coldness" to him, he left.
I was alone again, content to think, happy to daydream.
There are probably more, but nothing else comes to mind. Oh wait.... yes, there is one more.
9) Memorizing the 3-d space my body moves in. I can s-o-m-e-t-i-m-e-s walk into a nearly dark room, navigate without any aid, avoiding furniture, and pick up an object where I left it. You may think this is due to good motor skills, but actually I can be very clumsy. When I am in this mode, I move more like a robot... slowly... methodically. It works -sometimes.

| Not needing to earn a lot of money to be happy. (Which is a good thing, because unless we have a technical gift to exploit - computers, engineering, etc - we're probably less likely to be promoted or hired for jobs on the basis of our personality and soft skills). |

Personally, I'm rather fond of the ability to live three or four lives at once... in my head  . Then there's my mind's ability to "see" 3-D models of anything I want to create, though sometimes I wish my hands could catch up. The lack of empathy and social skills also prevents me from getting my feelings hurt much, either because I don't get the subtext of a comment or because I don't really care what they think. It's hard to get offended when you take the emotional content out of someone's dislike for you.
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the trivial knowledge/specialized interest/vocabulary things and the attention-to-detail thing. I'm capable of lying, but it doesn't usually occur to me to do so and honesty's not always what it's cracked up to be either ("Honey, do these pants make me look fat?" "Uh... I'll help you move.").
But the ability to amuse myself with multiple levels of silliness that others would roll their eyes at (such as my username and that of MissConstrue) tends to let me see the brighter side of life. I once wrote a stage play which featured dialogue between a pair of nitrogen atoms, among other needlessly bizarre occurrences, and you should've seen what was going through my head when I read about body language mimicry in social situations . |
