My siblings and I got a really cheap used NDS with 6 games:
* Mario Vs. Donkey Kong (GBA)
* Mario Kart DS
* Yoshi's Island DS
* Diddy Kong Racing DS
* Mario and Sonic At The Olympic Games
* Cars (this game sucks)
We want a good Pokémon game, and I need RPGs (Final Fantasy III for sure). What do you recommend?
My brother wants Nintendogs Chihuahaua & Friends. Is it a funny game?

I have Pokemon Pearl which is actually quite fun. I also heard some mixed feelings on Ranger and Mystery Dungeon 2.
Oooh! Another good game is Phantom Hourglass from the LoZ series. Very good game. I also heard that the new FFXII Revenant Wings game is good too.
As for Nintendogs, I'm not sure if it's "funny" but it is fun. |

As far as strategy games go, you can't go wrong with either of the two Advance Wars titles. IMO Advance Wars: Dark Conflict is the better of the two DS titles, though the GBA Advance Wars trumps them all.
For puzzle games, Puzzle Quest is an excellent and addictive title with RPG-elements.
For action-RPG games, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is by far the top of the bunch.
For JRPGs, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and The World Ends With You are excellent choices. Although it should be said that the DS Pokemon game is very similar to previous titles. Etrian Odyssey is another of my favourites, though you're advised to read a review of it before a purchase. It's very, very old school despite its anime presentation.
I would strongly advise against getting Final Fantasy III unless you have played the NES originals and enjoyed them. Given the easy availability of ROMS on the net, there's no excuse to not try before you buy, for this particular game. If you must get a Final Fantasy game, you're far better off getting Final Fantasy VI Advance. Also stay far away from Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, the gameplay in that title is very lacking.
For music-rhythm games, Elite Beat Agents is fantastic fun for everyone. It is easily one of my favourite DS games.
Animal Crossing is a good game, though it's hard to describe the gameplay. It is a very casual oriented game where you talk to villagers and make friends amongst them, and raise plants and catch insects. It is not goal-oriented at all. You get the most out of this game if you know someone else with it.
Trauma Centre is a decent game where you play as a surgeon and perform operations. It is very pick up and play oriented. |

I played Final Fantasy Origins (FF I & II for PlayStation), and they were ok for me. Years ago, I played FFIII with an emulator, but the translation was bad, so I couldn't finish it because I didn't know what to do next. Now, I wanna play FFIII again, with full english dialogs. FFVI is ok, but I got it for Play Station (FF Anthology).
LoZ Phantom Hourglass and Elite Beat Agents are fun, a classmate have them I played yesterday. Maybe I'll get them.

FFIII is very similar to FFV, which if you have FF Anthology you should've played. However, in FFIII the job system is more limited and you can only use the abilities of one job unlike in FFV where you can do a sort-of-equivalent form of dual classing in D&D RPGs. The story in FFIII is just as daft as it was in FFV.
FFIII DS is also much, much slower paced than the original counterpart due to longer animations, transitions between battles, etc. I don't think this is an issue of longer load times, because from what I understand cartridge based games really don't take very long to load at all. The longer transitions between the field and battles seem to be an unwanted relic of the disc-based FF games rather than stemming from a technical issue. |

If you want a quick, easy game, try Cooking Mama and Cooking Mama 2. I am freaking addicted to it.

Final Fantasy III and The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass are both good.

It's a GBA game, but a good one: Shining Force: The Resurrection of Dark Dragon, which is based off of the 1992 Sega Genesis game Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention, A game that I consider one of my five favorite games of all time. It adds a few new charecters and plot devices that weren't in the original, and the graphics are better, but it's more or less the same game. Which is fantastic, because the original was very fun.

| Etrian Odyssey 2 is coming out soon. Woohoo! I loved the first game, anyone who likes RPGs old school might want to check this out, it's tons better than Final Fantasy 3's so-called 'old school'. |

The World Ends With You is amazing. I'm about half way through at the moment, and it's so well done. It's deffinatly the best RPG I've played, but I'm not really much of a gamer. The gameplay is well organised as well. Plus, yes, you get XP for turning the game off. And, later on, for meeting another DS with the connection on (they don't have to have the game, although you get more points if they do). My boyfriend and I have been having fun with that, and as a surprise he levelled up all my pins for me one morning while I was asleep through mingle. <33 Oh, and as a plus, it's very, very pretty and has an awesome story line.
Also, Drawn To Life is pretty fun. Mostly it's just a platform game, but you get to draw your own characters and parts of the game. I'm actually stuck on the second to last level of that, but until then I was having great fun going through it.
If you like dungeon games, then Children of Mana is worth looking at. I really enjoyed it. Very pretty, reasonably simple and a nice storyline.
As for pokemon, I'm not too impressed with the DS games. I think I have them all (although I sold my copy of diamond). I prefer Yellow and Crystal, although I haven't bothered to get past the second gym yet. The Dungeon games are okay, but a bit confusing: I played through the introduction, then went back to it a couple of weeks later and couldn't remember how to do anything so got stuck on the first level (  ). The racing game, whatever it's called, is okay, but the tracks get a bit confusing. Ranger is probably the one most worth looking at: it was the first game I played on my DS and I was reasonably impressed with it (mostly because it wasn't the usual storyline/action).

| Oh yeah, and another awesome game that will be released soon for the DS is Guitar Hero DS. It's getting good previews so far, and I think it gets released next month. |
