I was embarrassed to a lot for some reason. Other times I was so self-absorbed I forgot to. Like getting them Christmas and birthday presents and that. I also told them off when they disrespected me, and demanded my needs and my rights. However, I often kept quiet when my mother tore me apart with her words. Because I was too embarrassed to say anything, andso I ignored her.

I've always made an effort to, in spite of their disrespect of me as an individual.

I was a total handful to put up with as a child (think along the lines of Artemis Fowl with a self-centered and anti-social streak) but at around twelve I matured very rapidly, and I've gotten along with my parents ever since :D I get along well with adults, and even my peers say I seem a lot older than they are.

Sometimes i did, sometimes i didnt. I think every once in a while a child will treat their parent/parents with disrespect. I think its impossible to grow up and never having made your parents sad/angry. I was really mean to my mom in my teen years. I grew out of it though. But me and my mom have a very strained relationship due to many reasons so i guess all people wont neccesarily behave as i have done.

I show my parents respect by not butting into their private lives all the time, like I wish they did for me.

Respect has to be earned. It's not a 'given'.

Though I appreciate my parents for not aborting me (I was an unplanned pregnancy while my parents were merely boyfriend and girlfriend) and paying the cash for a large amount of my existence, my childhood experiences prevent me from feeling too much warmth towards them.

My father, especially, treats me as some kind of disgusting mistake he made and probably wonders how his sperm could have a half share in something so awful. My mother just prefers to think that everything bad that happened to me is the fault of my 'problems' and especially me, rather than anything to do with her.

Not especially, since they always seek to make me mad all the time, though i have more respect for my mom than my stepdad.

I did when I lived at home. Never talked back. Then when I was away at university in my 20s and started needing help with issues, I asked them for help and challenged them with some stuff, and that was the end of that. Now I'm the bad kid. Sigh.

I think it's a bad sign if you never talk back, because authentic relationships have real problems that come up, and no one's perfect at expressing themselves when they're stressed. I was in denial. But you can fight and still be respectful.

I've always shown my parents respect just because I felt no reason not to.
