So we'll get a load more stupid uneducated brats running the streets, but this time rife with virulent disease.

Or on a positive note, half of the whole next generation of bus-stop tagging, cheap cider drinking hoodie shites will die of something hideous.

Population control? Thinly disguised eugenics? You decide..

Heh. That's actually a pretty good idea.

Even if one of school's primary purposes, it seems, is to strengthen kids' immune systems by spreading diseases...

*SARCASM* But the Anti-Vax people say that measles is harmless, like a cold; and the vaccine doesnt do anything anyway, it's all hygiene... *SARCASM*

The anti-vaccine group needs a history lesson.

Children who have not received all their vaccinations should not be allowed to start school, a Labour MP has suggested.

In the state where I live, you can't start school unless you've had all your vaccinations. Unless you're an illegal immigrant (which explains our recent leprosy outbreak - no, seriously, I'm not kidding).

That's easy enough; set up a homeschooling group of enlightened individuals unwilling to sacrifice their children's immune systems for the sake of faulty science from dodgy companies. Smile

Unless, of course, they're going to do a complete overhaul of the vaccines themselves and take out all the noxious ingredients... in which case (depending on what they're replaced with) I'd reconsider, as I'm sure most others would too.

My parents made sure I got all my vaccinations and followed the laws. I still got measles when I was 15 because the original vaccine I got didn't work too well. I was extremely sick. I almost died. I would never want any kids to get that sick. People should vaccinate. Measles is not harmless.

But if you were vaccinated and it didn't work and you still got the disease, why would you say 'vaccinate'? Sure, eradicate the disease because it's horrible, but if vaccinating doesn't work don't you think we're barking up the wrong tree?

On a related note, I had rubella as a child, as did just about every other kid in my school... and we were all vaccinated. And no, it wasn't started by any rebellious non-vaccinators.

I was fully vaccinated, but I still had mumps when I was 10. I still think vaccines are important, as one rare complication from mumps is infertility in boys past puberty. Measles isn't mild at all, as complications such as pneumonia, seizures, and even death can occur. In that case, not vaccinating can be a form of eugenics as there are people who would rather have a dead child than one on the autistic spectrum.

Another one.

Why are people so brainwashed - you know from experience they don't work, so if they don't work why keep pushing for them? Surely the logical thing would be to say "Hang on a second, in theory they're fine but if they don't work shouldn't something to be done to change them and fix them so they do work?"

Vaccines do not make it impossible to contract a disease. They greatly reduce the likelihood that one will get the disease if exposed to it.

There will always be instances in which people contract diseases against which they were vaccinated. Vaccines are used because they have a significant, measurable impact on public health.

Oh, you have anecdotal evidence. That certainly trumps every epidemiological study that's ever been conducted. Rolling Eyes

You're always questioning the motives of the pharmaceutical companies... what specifically have they done to distort their research findings? If you can't find anything, you're essentially relying on ad hominem. If we're going by that criteria, I can find a reason to distrust just about everyone, not least of all the anti-vax movement.

If the issue, as you claimed in the other thread, is pure profiteering, would you care to share how these companies profit by putting these "toxins" in the vaccines? Wouldn't they make just the same profit otherwise, or even more profit since people like yourself wouldn't be frightened away from the vaccines?

You are brainwashed, not us.

Unvaccinated people shouldn't be allowed in public.

There are two angles to this.. not just the age-old argument about vaccines, but the question "Should the government be nannying so much?"

A personal anecdote: Nits

Years ago, schools used to have Nit Nurses, who would come in and check kids for headlice, and dole out treatment as neccessary. (Its possible they did other things, and were probably health visitor types, but the only thing I recall is the nit-checking part.) This no longer happens. Subsequently, two of my children spend a lot of time with the shortest possible haircuts they can get away with, and the third (who happens to have very long hair indeed) was coming home seething with the hideous little insect swine about once every 3-4 months, often more. This was considered a very bad thing. It costs money, and both I and my partner had long hair, as did many of our compatriots and aquaintances. It made things a nightmare. The only reason she ever had them, is becase there were certain parents at her school who just couldnt give a sh**. They didnt care if their children were covered in sh** and on fire. So all the other kids suffered. Back when we had the Nit nurses, it was a rare and unusual event. So government nannying actually helped.

The problem with this topic then: Assuming that vaccines DO help prevent disease (which they apparently do) is it right for the government to be forcing the issue and making sure that everyone does not suffer because of the actions of the few.. or is it just another big-brother-do-as-youre-told-eye-in-the-sky-we-control- the-horizontal-and-the-vertical sort of thing?
