Your field is excellent preparation for computer programming, particularly AI.
(I say that based on my own experience, which includes philosophy and programming.)

It sounds like that professor will be a lot of fun to work with Smile

I am not so good at multitasking, and I wouldn't want to be. From what I understand of the field, most cognitive scientists choose one or two fields of expertise, but learn enough of the others to effectively apply their knowledge (one of my professors became interested in cognitive science after he took a philosophy class as a computer science major). A few go far outside even this broad range of subjects, like researchers who study social insect behavior and apply it to robots. Because it is such a multi-disciplinary field, I doubt any one contributor is expected to study each part in great detail. Rather, it's almost like they all got together and had a party saying to each other, "let's figure out how to make machines more like people."

You might like this, actually: "Becoming a scientist is less a matter of learning a set of laws than it is a matter of mastering the details of the prototypical applications of the relevant resources in such a way that one can recognize and generate further applications of a relatively similar kind." -Paul Churchland, "On the Nature of Theories: A Neurocomputational Perspective"

Definitely grad school, most likely a Ph.D. What do you mean, a lot of places would be interested? I'm not aware of any jobs I could get with this degree... I'm just studying what I enjoy.

Phagocyte: How on earth did you get a research position at your age? I'm so jealous.

I don't know about jobs specifically, but having an interdisciplinary skill set like that would probably score big points when trying to get in somewhere for phd. The only thing is making sure that whatever phd admissions actually understands what your degree is Smile

You should try to get some research in. Even if you only work a little for free (try to see if you can get at least course credit or something, though) it's great for your letters of rec and if you actually manage to produce something publishable (there are some journals and conferences specifically for undergrads that are much easier to get into) that's *huge* and it's what will get you into major programs over other similarly qualified applicants

But yeah, especially if you have done some research as an undergrad, interdisciplinary can make you stand out.

*could've sworn he already posted on this topic some time ago* O.o hmmmm...

I'm not in college yet...HOWEVER...
this fall, I'll be enrolling in CSM (College of Southern Maryland): Prince Frederick Campus to major in general studies (2 year degree), then I'm transfering that credit to a four year college (most likely UMBC) to major in something I'll actually like. XD

I've narrowed it down to three possible majors: Physics (research/teaching @ a university), Electrical Engineering (I like electricity and spinning things XD), or computer science.

Next fall, I will be transferring to Texas State University, in San Marcos, Texas (just south of Austin), majoring in geography/urban planning.

Congratulations. I grew up in San Marcos and attended a few courses back when it was still Southwest Texas State U. The geography department there is topnotch.

This fall, I'm heading to the University of Miami to major in Microbiology and Immunology. I will minor in mathematics, and probably another minor in chemistry. The math might turn into a second major, or I might end up getting a music minor.

Hello,

I'm working on my MBA through Utica College's on-line program. They're in upstate NY, and I've been to campus a few times. Once just to visit, and then two other longer times for 3-day residencies. I will graduate in May 2009. My MBA is specifically in Economic Crime & Fraud Management.

I'm thinking about continuing into a DBA program at NCU (also on-line, but in Prescott Valley, AZ), for a degree in Homeland Security. As long as I go within 3 years of finishing my MBA, they would accept my core classes and not make me repeat them. I need to get a job in my field first though and take care of some of my bills! Smile

When I was there competing for UM's top scholarship, pretty much EVERYONE there was some variant of bio or pre-med, so I think bio is probably the most competitive major at a lot of places.
