I know.
But maybe.. just maybe, if we kill them all...

Hehe. I'm not on about kids with AS (NEVER) but I'm on about the chavs and wannabe gangsters...

Let's all just look the other way.. and let me kill 'em!

I'm become obsessed with Anime over the last few months and since January I coloured my hair partially blue. I always feel at home with this and it's made me the happiest in my life...But when others see me they point and laugh and I just don't care. But nowadays it's really getting to me. On the one hand I can dye it back to it's original colour and sacrifice my happiness or leave it and deal with the taunts. People look at me and label me as "eccentric" which is the word I hate. i condsider myself to be as normal as them; sometimes not, and since my full diagnoses of AS during the past 3 weeks I have been feeling uncomfortable and mixedly feeling different as though I am accepting myself and then not accepting myself...

I hate the confusion and anxiety how do I stop this?

Hi stimshieme..

NT parent here.... (not an evil one...lol)

I can only advise you from my experiences. Kids Are Cruel.. Growing up.. I was teased my whole life, and never seemed to fit in as well.. I guess I was socially inept.. It's not just you guys that get it.. it's the "in" crowd.. that seems to prey on the weaknesses of others, so that they can feel superior.. fact is.. that stems from their own insecurities.. So, the people who make you feel like this.. are the ones who have the lowest self esteem, and need to make others feel like crap, in order for them to feel better about themselves.. really it's sad.. feel bad for them, as they don't have good selfesteem.. I'd point it out to them.

P.s. If your going to have blue hair.. it's like putting a target on your back, for those who prey on others, and at the same time, you will be admired by alot of people for having the guts to show your individualaility... So your going to be trapped in the middle.

I always admired the ones who had the guts to pull away from the grain.. and not be part of the herd, and I'm sure there are many others who admire you as well.. Following the crowd, and being part of a herd, is not all it's cracked up to be.. it may be easier on you to not get bullied if you don't stand out.. but it also stifles your uniqueness, and that's what makes you the wonderful person you are. People also bully you because they are jealous.. so, when you get bullied remember this... the person doing it.. is probably jealous that you have the guts to not follow the crowd, and is dealing with low self esteem as well.

When people admire you from far.. you may never know it.. but when they are jealous of you from far.. they get in closer and try to make you feel bad.. it's really them, who feels bad.

I don't know what grade/school year you are in.. but once you get to college, the "in crowd" is out.. and the unique individuals are "IN" that's because, at a college level, people begin to realize, the "In" crowd, is nothing more than a bunch of low self esteemers... who have a NEED to fit in.. and the unique individuals, are much more appreciated.. In college, being a unique minded free thinker, shows intelligence, that may not have been recognized by school peers previously. It may be a while until you get to this point.. but there are blue skies up ahead.. Good Luck.. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about yourself!!!

Don't let it bother you, the people who act that way end up growing to become people like Mugabe, Bashir, or Burmas' military leaders.

Just be yourself and if anyone asks you for help, just give it to them.

I love putting blue gel in my hair. I like to show society, where I stand.

Forgot them. If they can't accept who you are than they aren't worth your time.
They are the problem not you. Everyone is different in some sorta of way.
Do what you want and don't worry about others. Life is too short!!!

At my school, unfortunately, people always try to fake eccentricity and originality to try and be 'cool' in some manner of the world. It takes all the fun out of being your own person, in my opinion.

Completely irrelevant post from me here...but faking eccentricity? Wow, some people have serious problems. Laughing
They bully the eccentric at one time and then at another time, try to BECOME the eccentric...it really makes no sense.

To the OP,
People are probably making fun of you because yes, you are different. BUT, they aren't doing it because they really dislike you, but because they envy you and are too stuck in trying to be "normal" to admit it. They might not envy the fact that you have blue hair, but they might because of the fact that you don't care about trying to be "normal", whatever that means anyway.
So when people try and make you feel bad about yourself...think about why they are doing it and then walk away knowing the truth. Smile

Your hair sounds cool! I hope you don't change it, but I guess if you are feeling self conscious about having As, it could make sense to 'blend into' the background with a normal hair colour, just until you come to terms with it.

I think 'eccentric' is a compliment these days- loads of people aspire to it (that and being 'random'). I know you don't like the word, but maybe you could replace it in your head with 'cool' or 'original', as that's what they probably mean.

My mother made me cut it. I'm gonna dye it green. It was strange today because now that my hair is extremely short I see other kids dying their hair green, purple, magenta, blue and stuff. Before it they didn't. I made my mark on that school. I even have my nickname that the 1st years (8th graders to you yanks) know. "Blue-haired guy". I'm so proud and yet ashamed my hair is short.

On the funny side a 2nd or 3rd year in the middle of the cafeteria shouted, "Oh my GOD! He got a haircut!!!!" and pointing right at me he was! I didn't know him and I have no idea how he recognised me and hair. However it made me laugh on the inside, I feel like a real role model. However my A's come first.

Some NTs at my school think I'm on drugs. I know I'm not and I am working hard for things ie getting NCEA level 1 with an endorsement this year and going as far as possible in cadets.

I would try to not let it bother me. They are the ones with the problem, not you. I can sort of understand why they may look at you, as blue hair is unusual. You should keep it if you like it, instead of attempting to fit in.

It's really silly to treat someone differently just because they have an unusual hair style or fashion sense, or any other difference.

I was often teased for wearing cheap clothing while everyone else spent obscene amounts of money on designer clothes. I was happy spending my money on coins for my collection, books, video games, and other things I'd actually enjoy while classmates and my brother spent nearly every penny on expensive clothes.

I am sure we've all had experiences of others teasing and making fun of us for behavioral differences that we could not change. Many people like to make fun of any difference they perceive as abnormal.

I've been called a psycho and a retard, just to name a couple of names, only because I did not fit in. I had people thinking I was on drugs well before I ever used any drugs.

he he, you know, im really inspired by you and admire your courage and sticking through the dark times to see the light at the end of the tunnel (i hope thats not the wrong expression, i think that one might mean dying actually o_O)... but you get the point, heh, you stuck to it and in the end got a posative result from it. keep it up, i hope to dye my hair bright red when i leave school, its been a childhood dream, bright red hair, denim jacket and jeans, heh. not sure what style you'd class that as... punk? mosher? still... they're all just catagorisations and steriotypes... anywhom... yeah, keep your confidence high and dont worry too mutch about the labels, its you that matters so take note of that, not what others say about you (unless ofcourse its either good feedback or constructive criticism in a friendly tone?) then maybe you could follow the advise but its your choice Smile.
