I love The Beatles.. but the one thing that's kinda a shame in my opinion is that there are a lot of people with, I won't say bad, but common taste in music who love The Beatles because they've been mostly exposed to their earlier poppy stuff, and a lot of people with harder to please tastes who don't like The Beatles because they've only been exposed to their earlier poppy stuff.

I'm particularly a fan of what they started writing after they got bored of writing typical pop hits like "8 Days a Week" and "I wanna hold your hand" and started doing drugs.

I love The Beatles. I'm more partial to their later stuff (Rubber Soul onwards), although I've had Please Please Me, With The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night, and Beatles For Sale on today, and I found a deeper appreciation for them than in the past.

I'm also a huge fan of the Beatles solo albums (I only have 2 Ringo albums, but own all the other albums by George, John, and Paul.) Solowise, John is probably my favorite, although I also really like a lot of Paul's albums.

Magical Mystery Tour is my favorite Beatles album. Cool

everyone with a pulse.

I love the Beatles of course but asking someone if they like the Beatles is like asking them if they breathe air. They're the single most popular rock band of all time. Ever.

[rant]The most overrated band ever. Ok, they have some amazing songs, like Tomorrow Never Knows or Strawberry Fields, but not one of their albums is good. I mean, come on, a band that popular without at least ONE good album? And no, Sgt. Pepper doesn't count. That is one unlistenable collection of 'hey, we're on drugs, let's put it on record' songs (except maybe a Day in the Life, which I like). Revolver was close to be a good album, but then they put Yellow Submarine in the middle. Wise decision, only it destroyed the whole album, maybe because it's an exceptionally bad song. The early albums are fun, but nothing extraordinary.[/rant]

Spend your money on some Kinks records instead.

Abbey Road is pretty much the best album ever.

Even hard prog-rock people who think the Beatles are too much of an oldies band for them can get into this... I hear so often, after people have really listened to this for the first time, "Wow, I had no idea the Beatles were that cool!" Laughing

Might be the bass.... might be Paul taking over.... might be that rocking A side followed with that mind-blowing 15-minute B-side medley, starting with my own personal favorite Beatles song, from age 11 til now: "You Never Give Me Your Money."

(Actually, I take that back. I can't decide now. It's either that or Golden Slumbers...maybe...)

Possibly the greatest ever.

I think people can't see past the worship of them to see how visionary they really were. For Christ's sake people, in 1964, ending 'She Loves You' on a sixth made George Martin laugh his ass off at the absurdity of it. They were different times.

I think in order to be a "Beatles fan" a necessary precondition is to believe that they were the best band ever. So accordingly, I'm not a Beatles fan. But they were very good to begin with, though early material seemed to be bogged down by silly covers. The point where I differ the most from the critical consensus is on Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album and Abbey Road, which have a lot of songs I don't care for and I've hardly listened to in years. Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's are mostly solid, the latter probably being their best.

I must admit I'm fairly perplexed by the complaints about "technical skill".
