A really funny story for you:
So, sometimes I have these moments. Maybe you have them to. In any case, I'm sure you'll understand.
Today I was on my way home from class. I walked up the hill to the street I live on and continued walking in the direction of my house. I kept walking...and walking...and walking... and then I realized something wasn't right. I should have been at my house ages ago. So I walked back...and ended up back on the main street. Now I knew something was wrong, but I couldn't for the life of me see my house. See, I live in a townhouse on a street of townhouses that all look the same, but I know how to recognize my house. However, today, I COULDN'T FIND IT.
Since I couldn't find my house, I decided I'd just have to look at all the house numbers. Well, I got to the number 20 where I live and I just stood there. It didn't look like my house. It had to be my house, but it just wasn't right. I stood there and stared at it.
Then, ladies and gentlemen, it all made sense.
I couldn't find my house because..
wait for it...
someone fixed the broken fence and didn't tell me. D'oh.  |

That is funny, (because it's true,lol). I have had similiar situations were I atually question my sanity for a bit.....usually I figure out what cause d the brain glitch(like with the fench) but sometimes I'm left wondering if I have MPD because I have no recall of something I did (or should have done).
Glad you can laugh about it...makes life a bit easier.

Thanks for sharing!
That was just awesome and made me laugh, because I know exactly what it's like. First moment I thought, hey, it's a house... a house doesn't walk away, right... but if it's not there, the only conclusion I figured out was that the house really was... gone.

| I've done that... went over to my best friend's and couldn't find her house cause they cut the tree down... didn't actually know what the house looked like ^^' |

OMG! 
I used to live in a townhouse too. I did the exact same thing when they trimmed the hedges and when they fixed the gate leading to our courtyard. LOL!
I used to walk my daughter home from school every afternoon and by that usual route, I never missed the house, but if I went down the street the other direction to the pool or playground, I'd often walk right on by our house when I came back. LOL! |

| that's very funny... i'm like that when i travel. if something changes in the landscape, i'm totally clueless. i travel in the country a lot and there's a white tree i take a turn at, so god forbid that tree ever gets cut down or something. i'd keep driving until i found a white tree to turn at! |

Been there, done that! On at least a weekly basis, and I completely get the sense of panic and bewilderment it can cause. We just moved into one of those subdivisions where the houses all look pretty much the same and I've come home and pulled into the neighbor's driveway several times already.
I've often driven past something or someplace on a busy street I've been down a thousand times and said "Wow - that's new", to which my wife will reply: "No, it isn't - that's been there for years. They just moved their sign." And I swear I can't recall ever having seen that particular business before.
Or driven around hopelessly lost looking for a place I know is there, utterly unable to find it, until somebody points out that the place next door to it has new siding or something.
Just imagine how disappointed women are when I fail to notice changes in their hair style, or new additions to their wardrobe - they're lucky I even recognize who they are.

I don't think I've had that problem. I just memorize the routes and the places. So that's how I know. If I were to go back to my old neighborhood, I would be able to find my old house easily, even if the other houses were painted a different color because I know the route to my house and what all the houses look like. Painting them isn't going to change how they look except the fact they have a different color on their house. I'd still find my old house if it was painted another color because I know what my old house looks like, even if the tress got cut down. I always find changes weird though because it feels I am on another planet. I like things the same but I don't freak out about it and get all upset and act like it's the end of the world. I wish all the buildings would stay the same and the insides of them too. I like history to them and originality.

Aww!
I think similar things have happened when I've been on holiday, its when you memories ways of doing things and getting places and then they change things. Sometimes I wonder if they do it just to trick you! |

I have done the SAME! HECK, at my last job, my boss gave me many clues, like a half finished building, etc... But he would NOT give me the address. It took like 3 HOURS to find it(after I should have). He hadn't been there for a while, and the half finished building looked complete.
Anyway, I have had similar problems. |

i remember once i went to see my pschologist, but she wasn't there and some other psychologist came to get me and started doing the session as usual. i thought nothing of it, i just assumed my usual psychologist was off ill. she did seem a bit over-familiar with my case though i guessed she had just read my case notes. then after about half an hour i noticed something really weird, she had a ring on her toe, just like my usual psychologist... and then i noticed she had the same voice as my usual psychologist...
it turned out she was my usual psychologist, she'd just had her hair dyed!  and i'd just been treating her like a complete stranger for the last half hour

I live in an apartment, and 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors all look the same. Ive come home from things several times and been thinking about something (not noticing the yellow doormat outside our apartment like i normally do) and tried to open the door to the apartment on the 2nd floor. We live on the 3rd floor My first thought was that someone had changed the lock, but after some minutes i realized it wasnt our door. I didnt even see the sign that was sprawled across it with our neighbours name. Thankfully the neighboor has never been home when ive done it so the door has been locked. God i dread the day when i do this and walk straight into the neighbours hallway

I lived at 825 5th Street, in a two story house, white with a green roof from age 5 to age 16. The house faced North.
Then we moved to another town and lived at 825 5th Street, in a two story house, white with a green roof. The house faced East.
To this day, every time I drive into that second town, the entire rest of the world rotates 90 degrees left.

| I have to memorize where my car is in the parking lot when I go into a store or else I'd never find it. A couple times I've gone down the wrong row, then panicked because SOMEBODY STOLE MY CAR!, but it's in the next row over. Thanks to the delayed processing aspies have, we don't realize that something has changed for 30 minutes. Enough time to panic. Also, our brains work in such a way that it's possible that the house DID get up and walk away, or the car WAS stolen (even with the security system), and etc. |
