Here is the scoop

I get pressured to go with a freshman I don't know or honestly give a damn about.
I notice someone I hang out with instead
I invite this sophomore (there isn't a lot of folks at my school)
I somehow get caught in a crapload of female NT drama, someone wanted to "destroy" her
After many paranoid responses, I break it off.
I am going alone, but so are others, so I don't mind.

It's a shame you have to go alone, given that you obviously wanted to invite some people to go with you. I always went to high school dances alone, but that was mostly by choice. Hopefully you will have a chance to meet some nice girls there, who are in the same boat as you.

At least you still can go to prom, unlike myself, who is in graduate school and can only dream about still being able to go to high school events. Even undergraduate events are harder to find than I would hope. Take advantage of your opportunities now.

(and if you wonder why I'm replying to a post in the adolescent forum, just realize that in many ways I feel like one, despite my physical age).

My solution was to bring a camera to my prom. I took pictures and gave them to the happy couples a few days later if t hey really turned out. (Though since I couldn't tell if people were drunk some of them had to be dicreetly removed after some classmates noticed) No one really cares that you're alone if you're "documenting" the prom.

Prom is the last thing on my mind, personally.

I tried to be cynical, I really did. But my friends are my greatest priority.

Maybe I can do some Ken Burns material. Have you seen his civil war documentary?

Eww I never went to prom for the reason that well I had no one to go with. I mean hey, during highschool I had basically zero shot at getting a date. And well the people in my school drove me crazy. But one of my friends tired to convince me to go to prom. But apparently I had another friend help me rationally think about it and we both concluded that I'd be miserable at prom. I have abolutley no regrets about not going.

there were many things that i could waste my money other than prom, thats why i didn't go, plus i don't really like music so sitting in that place for 3 hours would have been torture.

I went to prom a couple weeks ago, and had a much better time than I expected. (I didn't have a melt down in the middle of the floor.) The main problem was that I really didn't know anyone, since I skipped my senior year of high school and am in college now (my "date"/ex-boyfriend is still in high school); I was not very well connected at the high school to begin with.

It really helped get rid of some of my phobia about physical contact. Wink Embarassed Wink Very Happy
