Ever since I was about 14 I have been interested in astrology, and took dates of birth of girls in my class. Discovered a bump of Pisces, ( more spring births) , and imagined ressemblances between people based on sunsign. Went on to learn how to draw up horoscopes, work out ascendants and house positions, etc, and read quite a lot of books about it.
Then I dropped it, for almost exactly 7 years in fact.
My interest in it was revived after I inadvertently experienced a major revolution in my life at exactly the same time as my first Saturn return, that is the year that the planet saturn comes back to the position it was in at your birth, which takes 29 years. Boom.
I have been keeping an eye on it ever since. It is my one tea-leaf habit.
I think tarot cards can be a useful self-examination tool, ( meditating on symbols), but this element of astrology ( planetary cycles), is the only one of these things which I continue to refer to in imagining possible events. I find it reassuring, because it reminds me that change happens, it happens repeatedly.
Does anyone else have a tea-leaf habit of any kind, in particular astrology?

Luv astrology and tarot. I wish people weren't so offeneded by that. I see them like any other hobbies. My astrology sign is under my rank BTW.
I find that esp this site ppl are sooo weird about anything that doesn't relate to facts and figures. Since this post didn't get many responses and if it did it's probably going to be why no one is into such nonesense. I think it's kind of fascinating. _________________ Oh you can't help that. The method of divination based on swilling dregs of tea made with real leaves around your cup, expertly flinging/tossing out the last drops of tea, and examining the distribution of tea leaves in bottom of cup for symbols/configurations supposedly providing clues to the future, or in answer to a question.
I am not a believer myself, but it is not so very different to Tarot in that is based on the trancelike meditation on complex shapes/signs arrived at "randomly"/in tune with the universe.

Yes; I'm wondering whether in fact there is a whole population of aspies out there happily earning good money practising the complex "art-sciences"/therapies/guided-meditations of astrology, aswell as homeopathy, tarot, numerology etc, without ever questioning their weirdness in being so fascinated by fine calculations of planetary movements in the abstract on a flat plane representing the psyche, or absorbed in the patterns of numbers in daily life, or in the hundreds of myths and legends and meanings atttached to the picture of the hanged man, the fool, or the priestess, etc in Tarot's explorations of the unconscious.
It's perfect obsession material. And puts one in a supportively structured relationship with other people using one's aspie skill at pattern recognition, attributing cause, creating meaning out of chaos, and monologuing about it.
I haven't done any "readings" for anyone for many years, usually monologue to myself about my ruminations.

Noone else on all wp with an astrology or numerology or tarot card obsession/hobby?
Roll up, roll up! Please declare yourselves.
Am increasingly struck, like MissConstrue, by the apparent absence of these interests on wp.

I know, strange isn't it?
This is the only site I've seen that happen. _________________ Oh you can't help that. We're all mad here.

I like Numerology and Astrology, but I'm not obsessed over them anymore (But if you give me a link to a couple good free websites, I might be tempted ) _________________ "You can do the math a thousand way, but you can't undo the past"

Perhaps some are unfamiliar with using phrase "tea leaves" as shorthand for numerous "divination" systems ? I thought this was only about tea leaves, not the whole gamut of beliefs including astrology or "I ching".
I happen to be person with no such mental habits. Am diffusely superstitious, but not based on any set indications or signs. Am attracted to, in "selfish" way, others' offers to "read" me through whatever media/method they are adept at-which I soak up & then forget all about, because it really didn't make any sense to me/how my mind conceptualizes things.
Am very emotional person so it's not that I'm so "logical-rational" as to have no idiosyncrasies. However, these techniques/materials "leave me cold", don't hold "ring of truth" when I encounter them, they don't "speak to me" the way books about sociology & neuroscience do. It's too hard guessing how to interpret/apply tarot cards, for instance-I can't do anything with them. Requires too much imagination (at least of the sort I lack-could never make up a good story)-I need ideas that feel more solid/fit with my personal experiences. No offense, y'all. _________________ *"You cannot administer a wicked law impartially-it destroys everyone it touches, its violators as well as its upholders."* |

I've changed the thread title so it's clearer about the subject. Thank you for pointing that out.

None taken.
Connecting with tarot cards totally depends for me on which set it is. I loathe the drawing and colours on the traditional basic pack. But I found a set with drawings/delicate paintings of english landscape on it, called "The Arthurian Tarot" with characters from the Arthurian legends for the major arcana. I love it. ( The Arthurian myth was one of my teenage obsessions). And it helps me "think" things in response to it.

I know very little off by heart, have to use the guide which goes with it as starter/cue, and extrapolate from there. Finding a layout which suited me was crucial. Like a sort of colour-by-numbers within which structure I could get absorbed in each card's possible signification, at liberty. But I haven't done any for two years now.
With astrology I used to love the groupings/types aspect of it. But since I got into saturn cycles I've concentrated mainly on seeking patterns, rhythms in types of activities/events. It helps remind me of the past, and draw lines between things, similarities/contrasts. Connecting.
Astrology for me is all about personal experiences. It's a framework for encouraging/calming reflection/meditation.

Was suddenly thinking, I sometimes get a similar feeling reading certain neuroscience/psychology etc books/articles as when am looking at saturn cycles, of seeing things ( in me or my life) that I hadn't noticed/understood before. Simply by connecting them in my mind as a result of the ideas in book, or in the lines drawn by planetary position etc.
I don't find the science books/articles as meditative though; it's less free-flow associative.

I'm not too big into that sort of stuff...have a passing interest in it. I've had a terot card reading or two, very interesting stuff (and pretty accurate).
I'm very big into premonitions...I've had them quite a few times, and it's hard not to have an interest in them when they're so incredibly personal.
Not really into astrology as a means of fortune telling, but I love to read about the different signs, and how they affect personalities. I really can see it when I connect them to people I know. _________________ How wonderful to be so profound. |

I'm not really into any of the choices but I do find astrology and tarot interesting. Actually, I think there may be something to them because my horoscopes are usually pretty close. _________________ Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.
