There's alot of idiots out there!!!!!!!!!!! You want to know what gets me?
Here's a rant...

From the people who brought you "Duct tape&seal your homes, there could be a chemical attack any time now", and "We invented a color coded alert system so we can tell you when to be really scared"....We now bring you
"BREAKING NEWS: THERE COULD BE A TSUNAMI ON THE US COAST, Are you prepared?"....

The news media have turned into complete morons that feed people fear beyond belief. They take a situation and they completely blow it out of proportion.

And this nationalistic garbage like "why should I donate anything, they aren't Americans", or "I'll donate because there was good Americans killed over there"..and so on. You people make me puke!!!!!! With all the technology advances, our world IS a country all in one. The time is running out for people to be crossing their hearts and flying their flags in the name of their little piece of the earth. PEOPLE have died!! Not Americans, Canadians, Iraquis or whatever...PEOPLE!!!!! People have died. We are all people and I think it is good to help other people.

The world is my country, anyone else with me on that one?

If you have any spare money to donate to charity go to www.wikipedia.com they have a list of charities...

I donated fifty the day before yesterday...

It's crazy how many innocent people died... their only crime was living on the wrong side of a fault line...

There is no need to overreact about few negative exceptions, just look anywhere and you'll see that many people are sending donations, and US govt. is being very responsible too.
Some people act like when anything bad happens to the world there's always US to blame, and US owes everyone everything. Do you have any idea how US citizens are treated abroad?
The truth is that many of people in those countries would cheer if something happened to the US.
So get your facts checked and stop using every single excuse to spread hate.

World is your country, well ok but I would suggest that you stop living in a dreamworld.
The world is not one, it is made many different sovereign states with different cultures, religions and cultures that clash with each other.

As for those tourists, well some are spoiled sure, but do you really want to have such a narrow image about the whole situation just because what TV shows to you? How about all those stories of people from western countries that were found there helping local population but weren't shown?

Problems now in hit areas are in efficiently distributing all of the aid between areas and countries, something which wont be too easy to do for now but it is being reported that people are getting at least basics so we can look forward to much less victims.

Anyone hear what I said? The world is a country. I more or less quoted the US for media and nationalism examples. This wasn't a direct hit on the US, just an example. However, they have the most technologically advanced media in the world and they over use some of that technology to scare people. Sitting back watching all of it is quite funny sometimes, but it is sad when there are so many people who buy into the fear.

Fear is what came with 9-11. It is necessary to sacrifice some comfort in order to prevent further terrorist attacks. Anti-terror warnings may be annoying but it is in order to assure a greater good, which is security from terror attacks.

only Iran officially applauded 9/11. And various groups in the Middle East but certainly not everyone- and these places are not where the earthquake happened. This area of asia is not one renowned for anti-americanism Bruno, so please don't suggest that those

. None of them did when 9/11 happened.

America actually responded better than the British government at first. The British government only increased the aid to £35 million after the British public raised over that amount in aroung 48 hours. Im not proud of my government for its pathetic first response.

American citizens abroad get treated far better then most people in their own countries- and Im not blind to the fact that yes, that applies to most western countries including my own. No-one has blamed America for the earthquake.

The world is my country. Im English/welsh/Irish with ancestry that can be traced to scotland and scandinavia. I have relatives as far away as Australia. There is a bar in new york with my surname as its name and I know for a fact that I must be related to the person who named that bar- anyone with my surname is related to me regardless of where they live in the world. We dont all get along in this world but sometimes we can all pull together- that is obvious from the international response to this disaster.

Now can we stop fighting here? There's enough problems in this world without creating more.

I know it's a terrible thing that happened but I have a slight disagreement with this thread.

It isn't really fair to accuse people of being selfish because other people are worse off..

would you be mean to your pet cat and call her selfish because some cats get abandoned? No.

Hi absolute_zero and v111. I agree with both of your sentiments, and it really makes me sick how the media is now trying to sugar coat the story. I just can't imagine the pain that these survivors feel. I know that it has to be just awful.

My family and I donated 1000 dollars to the Red Cross for what happened with the tsunami. I feel happy that we did that.

I wish we had $1000 to donate! I applaud your family, Chris!
Every year from Thanksgiving through New Years my 3 youngest kids (13, 10 & 7 yrs old) put money in a little box in appreciation for their blessings. Something different each day -- a nickle for every pillow, a quarter for each running water faucet, a penny for every children's book (and we have a LOT!), two cents for every pair of socks, etc. Each year on Epiphany they decide where to donate their collection. This year it's going to help the tsunami victims -- the whole $16.40. Very Happy I am very proud of them!
