guys, I need help with something. I have an Impish-natured Giratina in my Pokemon Diamond game. Here are his stats:
HP: 449
Attack: 268
Defense: 338
SP Attack: 190
Sp defense: 297
Speed: 195
Shadow Force
Dragon claw
Will-O-Wisp
Roar
Can you guys post your suggestions for movesets for this Pokemon of mine please? I keep changing Giratina's moveset constantly, and I just can't seem to make up my mind. thank you. |

You should post what level it is and it's EV spread. It all depends on what you want it to do really. I'd probably have the Rest / Sleep Talk combo on it because the only healing move it learns is Rest and 2 turns is a long time to be asleep. Most know Will-O-Wisp to cripple physical sweepers (it's usually meant for Extreme Speed Arceus). Then the last move should be a STAB move. It depends onw hat you want it to hit. Dragon Claw will do super effective against dragns which is a common type in Uber battles. If you're more worried about psychic Pokemon then teach it Shadow Claw. It's recommended over Shadow Force because Shadow Force kind of sucks. It takes 2 turns to use so it's easy to counter. Shadow Claw doesn't take and extra turn to use and it has a 30% chance of landing a critical hit. The downside to it is it's base power is only 70 compared to Shadow Force's 120 (before STAB of course). So I recommend:
Shadow Claw or Dragon Claw
Will-O-Wisp
Rest
Sleep Talk
This is the most common Giratina moveset. |

You might want to get a better nature for it if you're going to use it in battles on Wi-Fi because Jolly lowers special attack. You should put 252 EVs into special attack and speed and the remaining EVs should go into HP. The best place to EV train for HP is this trainer East of Pastoria City. They're running back and fourth on a beach. If your Pokemon are over level 40 (I think) they'll have 3 Gastrodons. Each give 2 HP EVs. I EV train defense at Iron Island but Alakazam's defense is so bad there's no point in trying to make it better. Just focus on it's strengths. |

It's level is 100. I cannot quite remember its EV spread exactly, but what I can tell you is that I gave him 100 effort points in HP, a little more than that in attack and defense, and 100 in SP defense. I know what you are going to say, I should have trained him better, I should of used more common sense, etc, but please try to refrain from that. This is actually the first Pokemon game I have ever owned in my entire life, and my common sense didn't really kick in until a few weeks after I caught Giratina. |

Do you realy want to use one of the most powerful pokemon, dosnt it make you feel a bit like you are cheating. I looked through my guide to look up moves and noticed your Giratina's lowest stat is the one that is usualy one of its best, it can learn alot of great special atacks but its too low. it seems that its best strength is being able to soak up damage. I would say willow wisp, shadow force, dragon claw and if you can get it earthquake. _________________ Whats life without a little bit of fun?

Your EV spread isn't that bad. I've been playing Pokemon since the RBY days and it took me more than a month to get the hang of EV training. EVs are only important if you plan on using Giratina for competitive battling anyway (he's only allowed in Uber tier battles). If you want to fix the EVs you can use this spread (sites like Smogon and Serebii will say this is the standard) 252 HP / 244 Def / 12 SpD. You can change the EVs on a level 100 Pokemon. There's certain berries that can decrease EVs. If you've put over 100 EVs into that stat the berries will bring the EVs down to 100. After that it decreased the EVs by 10. When you've decreased the EVs to whatever number you want you can deposit the Pokemon then withdraw it and you'll see that it stats have decreased because it took off EVs. Then you can give the Pokemon vitamins and EV train against wild Pokemon again (it still works even though it's level 100). Deposit it again then withdraw and it's stats will be raised. It takes awhile but it can be worth it. Just imagine how frustrated your friends will be when they fail to 5HKO Giratina.
And here's a list of EV decreasing berries if you don't know which ones do that.
Pomeg Berry: Decreases HP EVs by 10 points.
Kelpsy Berry: Decreases Attack EVs by 10 points.
Qualot Berry: Decreases Defense EVs by 10 points.
Tamato Berry: Decreases Speed EVs by 10 points.
Grepa Berry: Decreases Special Attack EVs by 10 points.
Hondew Berry: Decreases Special Defense EVs by 10 points. |

Okay, how do you EV train at level 100? I tried the box trick in diamond, and it didn't work. How do you EV train at level 100? |

That's strange. I've never done it myself but I know people that do it all the time.
| Stereokid wrote: | | ALso, which EVs do you want me to reduce with the berries? |
I would take off the attack EVs and put them into HP. The Defense and Special Defense EVs could be split like you did but most people put max or near max EVs into defense because Giratina is usually used to counter physical sweepers. Don't worry if you can't take off EVs though; your EV spread isn't bad. It's stats are definitely good enough to be a good mixed wall. I wouldn't really recommend Bradleigh's physical sweeper moveset. He's right that it can learn powerful physical moves like EQ and Dragon Claw but it'll need a choice band to do decent damage. And you Will-O-Wisp doesn't work well with Pokemon holding Choice Items. It's speed isn't good enough either (although having insane defenses helps it). You can't really Scarf it because then it's attack isn't high enough. =/ So go with EVs and moves that focus on it's walling abilities. You've almost got it perfect, the only thing you really need to do is drop Shadow Force for Rest so it can heal and get rid of status conditions like being poisoned by Toxic, Toxic can basically ruin it. |
