I'd like to ask the 60 people who said they would be active in a forum for Pre-Diagnosis Era Survivors if it would bother you to make the In-Depth forum our home for discussion of our issues, at least for now (seeing as this is the option that Alex has given us).
I say let's """take over""" the In-Depth Discussion board!!! And if we prove we're indeed as many and as active as we've said we'd be, with time we may be able to persuade Alex to give us our own space.
Is this OK for you?
(Please note this is NOT a poll. I'm using the poll function just for the easiness to count the interested people. I have to enter YES twice, because it requires 2 options.)
If I get at least about 20 answers here, I promise to start off in the In-Depth forum. _________________ So-called white lies are like fake jewelry. Adorn yourself with them if you must, but expect to look cheap to a connoisseur. |

I always wanted that forum to be for age peers to talk.
Go ahead. |

Yes.
I think it was meant for "us" anyway. Oldies/late dx'ers, and AS parents crumpling under the normative demands of parenthood, ( it's when society really gets you profoundly, I think it's worse than work, and its intersection with late dx/discovery of AS is probably statistically significant too) .
If the title/description could just be tweaked a bit more...
I think the reason I didn't post there before was I really didn't know what it was for. It seemed like a non-zone. I think I need a theme, a category, to be clear, before I do very much anywhere.
So this is for the seaworn wrecks and liferafts. Good!

If you want your "own space" and you don't think Alex is being fair with the already numerous subsections of forums there already are, I think maybe you should go start your own board.
I don't think it's appropriate to "take over" any part of a board, or try to badger the board owner into giving you what you want. And really, I think it's unnecessary to make another subsection with the specifics you want, when there is already an Adult board, and In-depth discussion board, and a parents board to discuss anything you would need to discuss in your +35 board. |

Parent's forum is for parents of AS children to discuss aforesaid children, not their own AS parenthood experience.
This thread by Greentea seems to be precisely meant to raise consciousness about how the In-Depth Forum could well be a super interim, or even longer term, solution, as you say, whose purpose/possibilities were just not fully understood until now. Too vague for some AS brains ( incl mine ) to get a handle on!

If I remember correctly, the In-Depth boards were started by Alex, because of a similar request awhile back, for older Aspies to have some place of their own on WP. It was started after the ex-Dino-Aspie Cafe, because the thread was getting too crowded. _________________ Dreams are renewable. Well, the forum I requested is for people who discovered AS around forty or later, when according to society it's too late for us to make some of the big direction changes. Not just an age bracket. But we'll do with what we've been offered, if enough pre-diagnosis survivors feel comfortable with it. _________________ So-called white lies are like fake jewelry. Hmmm... so would I be able to join the forum because I think I was 'pre DX' era, but was diagnosed with high functioning autism in the mid 1980's when I was very little?
Not sure if it counts, just cause so few kids with autism back then I was definatly feeling like an orgininal looking back then. Nowdays no so much so. _________________ DX'ed with HFA as a child. However this was in 1987 and I am certain had I been DX'ed a few years later I would have been DX'ed with AS instead. |

I vote.....err.....Yes!!!!
With the proviso that if posts are made that could be better placed elsewhere, if not moved, I shall unleash my decades of bitterness , resentement and oppression and...and....and.....politely suggest the post belongs elsewhere

OK, Which wise guy/gal picked yes instead of yes?!?!?
I'm just kidding.
I'm for it as well. Pre diagnosis era survivors? WOW, I never thought of it that way, but YEAH! My life would be FAR different if I had known the cards dealt me. A LOT of the young complainers don't understand that this is like a poker game. THEY got to look at all the cards! WE didn't even know we were playing. |

Everyone is allowed to join, woodsman, and you're certainly very welcome. It's not an exclusive club, it's a forum for the pre-dx era survivors plus anyone who doesn't feel bored or depressed by what we have to share. _________________ So-called white lies are like fake jewelry. A poker game is a wonderful analogy for the kind of mysterious social games we have to play in order to get by in life.
And I agree, someone here can't tell the difference between Yes and Yes. I'm surprised it wasn't me. _________________ So-called white lies are like fake jewelry. Adorn yourself with them if you must, but expect to look cheap to a connoisseur. |

Another poll where I can't see the count, because I am not allowed to vote.
Again, my answer would have to be "I won't", as I've never felt I can use the In-Depth forum (too ageist). _________________ "Striking up conversations with strangers is an autistic person's version of extreme sports." Kamran Nazeer |
