Well I think the game is rated E for everyone, but in the game Captain Olimer enslaves and orders Pikmin to do his bidding by demolishing barriers, battling enemies, and hauling stuff back to his ship. In the process of doing this, hundreds or even thousands of Pikmin will inevitably be killed or left to fend for themselves when Captain Olimer blasts off into orbit without them. As bad as that is, what's even worse about it is Captain Olimer is only doing this for his own selfish purpose of repairing his ship so he can leave.

But why is Captain Olimer so important that he can sacrifice so many lives to save his own? Is this game morally acceptable? And should children be allowed to play it? Should the rating not be M for mature rather than E for everyone? Confused

Sure sounds like real life to me. Maybe the makers were trying to prepare people for the "work force". Of course, they will all be more prepared to be the captain then the Pikmin......and will cause a new saying to be coined..."To many captains and not enough Pikmin".

Personally, I think you're reading too much into this, and the 'morality' of Olimar is actually largely determined by the player's actions.

If you wanna go there, think about Pokemon battles. It's just as bad a cock fighting. I used to say "If this were real it would be very very wrong." when I was 8. Think about it, you make then battle and then you catch the weakened pokemon to force it to do the same thing.

I never could play video games where I had to be mean to the innoscent...my BF and his son love these games and kill random people for "fun". I can only kill monsters and zombies.

what about Viva Pinata, your main way to deal with these animal cratures is hitting them with a shovel. It was made by Rare who also made the Banjo Kazooie games, and though they are G rated they were riddeld with dirty jokes, and Viva Pinata has some dirty jokes. If you have seen the show it idolises eating as much candy as possible. In the Pokemon games you are going against people who are missusing them.

Ah, also Rare did Conker's Bad Fur Day a great game, but it's not for children. However if it wasn't for the several warnings plasters over the box, an unasumming parent would think its a game with cute animals. Like Banjo-Kazooie

Also by your reasoning, Pokemon, like Pikmin, is morally questionable. Its about little kids stealing animals from their environments, keeping them in cramped quarters and then battling them for sport. And throughout the game, adults reward you for this.

And Super Mario Bros. is about saving a princess by jumping on the heads of turtles. I don't know how PETA didn't jump all over that game when it came out.

And there was a news story a few years ago down here in Rhode Island where a 3rd grader badly injured another with a move he learned in a video game. The game was Madden NFL.

Sacrificing thousands of innocent lives on foreign soil with callous disregard for the consequences so that you can accomplish a personal goal: immoral? Not at all! That is PATRIOTISM!!! God bless Olimarica!!!

Pikmin is about as immoral as pruning plants.

It isnt all bad in pokemon, If it's like the show the ones you put into the computer are put into some picturesc place. I for one have goten attached to some of these bundles of datta, plus you can give them candy, berries, spray them with strange chemicals called 'potions', take cute picturs and and force them into beaty pagents.

No, he is not, not when I play at least, if only one pikmin dies ill start the day over again.
But have you heard Ai no Uta? Those lyrics are so sad.

I think its a nice game, I thinkpokemon is more cruel, at least in Pikmin (the first one) you are fighting for your life not for money like in pokemon, besides pokemon are supposed to be your friends but you let them suffer.

Well, in pokemon, the owners make their poor pokemon battle each other until they faint from exhaustion...
