My mothers side. My grandfather is a textbook undiagnosed Aspie. My male cousin is also. I strongly suspected my grandmother of having many traits herself.
I have no ties to my fathers side of the family so I'm unsure about them. |

| It is because my patriarchal lineage consists 90% of engineers and scientists as far as we can trace this back. My mother's side is Jewish which has a higher rate of Asperger's due to the higher Jewish average IQ of about 112. |

I'm thinking hereditory, with environmental triggers, but I'm not a 100% sure. _________________ Being Normal Is Vastly Overrated |

Same here; using some of the research I found through ASU (ASU Autism Research - Completed), there are some interesting things I noted, one in particular:
| Quote: | | Summary: A questionnaire was used to assess heavy metal exposure in the mothers of children with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) vs. controls. Four exposures were found to be statistically significant, including maternal seafood consumption, oral antibiotic use (which greatly decreases excretion of mercury), adverse reactions to vaccinations (many of which contain thimerosal), and pica (which leads to increased consumption of heavy metals). |
(Had to point out that it is an anecdotal response since it is questionnaire based.)
Maternal fish consumption (coastal Alaska) and oral antibiotic use (had rampant ear and bronchial infections as child (10+ annual) including a number of hospitalizations) both would be factors to consider in my case if such contributory causes are proved out.

My father has Asperger's (undiagnosed). My mom's side is full of Aspie-ish traits in milder form, and a cousin on my mom's side is suspected to have Asperger's. Also, my mom's side is Presbyterian going back centuries, and several Presbyterian stereotypes seem somewhat Aspie. _________________ WAR IS PEACE

A whole lot of neurological variations run in my family on both sides, so I imagine it's a result of that. _________________ "We may seem in the gutter from up there where you are but maybe you don't know we still see the same stars." -Donna Williams |

| My mother and maternal grandmother have some Aspie traits, and I would go so far as to say one of my aunts could probably get a diagnosis. My brother has ADHD and there are other disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe depression, and others) running rampant all over our family tree. Family reunions are tons o' fun! |
