Years ago, I did an art project in which I did Glitter Glue portraits of dead rock stars. Then I'd glue on a typed description of how they died, such as:
Cause of Death: Lymphoma
Cause of Death: Struck by car while walking through Paris, then went home and slowly bled to death
Cause of Death: Crushed by bus
Cause of Death: Drank month's supply of Methadone after accidentally shooting acid in New Orleans
Of course the rocker's name would be written prominently at the top in Glitter Glue. Unfortunately, Glitter Glue does not adhere well to glass, which seemed like a good material to use at the time, so they all fell apart. Someday, I will resurrect the project because it was the definition of AWESOME.
Oh, and if you can identify any of those people based on the cause of death, I'll give you a gold star. |

Cliff Burton
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliff_Burton
I don't even like Metallica, not even the early records with Cliff on them, but he seemed cool, he was a good bass player, and I really wanted to make one that said "crushed by bus"!
I'm weird - I go on about how it's important to respect the dead and then I do stuff like that. I figure the dead rocker would probably laugh about it with me if he were alive so why not? |

Yeah, and there are worse ones that I can't recall right now. Personally, I'm disturbed by the story of Johnny Thunders' death (the methadone one). He had leukemia at the time too. And he was all alone in some sketchy motel, unexpectedly out of his mind on acid . . . It's something I can imagine all too well, unfortunately.
I like to hope that Stiv Bators (hit by car and went home thinking he was OK) died peacefully in his sleep, but who knows. I don't remember all the details - whether it was brain hemorrhaging or some other ruptured internal organs or both. Poor Stiv.
Oh, and then there was Peter Laughner, who drank so heavily he died of the effects of alcoholism at the age of 24. The direct cause was pancreatitis. Apparently, he died slowly, in great pain. I shudder when I think about that too.
But I also get really sad when I think about how D Boon died because he seemed like such a nice, smart guy, even though I'm not really into The Minutemen - I love the lyrics and I think the music's incredible but it's not for me in an inexplicable kind of way (too jazzy?). |

Yeah, but I like my collection of Cause of Death stories because, collectively, they show that rockers don't always die from substance-abuse-related causes, even when they die young.
For example, 2 out of 3 dead Ramones died of cancer. Arthur Kane died of cancer too. Lord Sutch hung himself. I could go on, but you get the point. |

Yeah I know, a lot of them have died from plane crashes too at least from what I've heard. When they crash they rarely survive _________________ Box |

It's pretty funny. I just hope the thread can recover.
Here's some idle doodling of mine to help it get back on track.
