I got into Splinter Cell cause there's a greater emphasis on stealth and skill, plus its more realistic compared to the semi-animeesque plotlines in MGS.

No offense to MGS fans, I just hate having to sit through not only the cutscenes but also the Codec sequences before gameplay starts.

Sorry, I disagree. I am yet to actually play Splinter Cell, though I have played, in a demo, Hitman 2 (which requires a lot of stealth).

I have only played the first one. I think its a tad overrated but its still a very fun game. The stealth really isn't as a great as I was expecting.

For a real stealth game, play Commandos on the PC.

I have metal gear solid for the original PS1 and I must say tho its lots of fun and I beat it in a halfway decent amount of time, that their is WAYYYYY too much talking and BS'in in the game I know its part of the story line but if they shortened it by ALOT I would be able to get into it more, too much talking is no fun!

I think it's slightly overrated, but still fun.

From what I've heard there are too many cut-scenes so I won't be playing them.

I could never get into the games. I got about halfway through the first Metal Gear for MSX, then I realized there was still a lot more of the game left, and I lost interest and stopped playing. I got bored even quicker with MGS for PSX Rolling Eyes

If I want a stealth experience, I'll play it in first person, like Thief 2, RtCW, or IGI2 \m/

What's the longest novel you have ever read, for pleasure and not on sufferance?

Metal gear isn't any more overrated than the other big titles out there, GTA/FF/gears of war/halo. I only played MGS part 2, but it was awesome...

Splinter Cell has better gameplay, but its storylines are terrible. I don't actually like PLAYING the MGS games (though I haven't played MGS4 and I've heard it's better in that department), but MGS has a way better story and characters--not to mention a sense of humor, which SC lacks.

yea that always blew my mind about Metal Gear. Kojima addresses these important subjects like nuclear warfare, genetic engineering, information control, and government's manipulation of free will but he peppers it with that irreverent sense of humor of his.

i'm not complaining though. often times i find the video games that take themselves super seriously are the ones with the weakest story (like Resident Evil). Kojima's manic joy for gaming is rather infectious and shows you how fun the medium can be if developers took the stick out of their asses and offered some left-field variety. i'm pretty sure MGS's storyline would be unbearable if he DIDN'T do this.

Splinter cell is really good but it's a different style of game. MGS4 you don't even need to use stealth, you can play it like a shooter. Also Splinter cell barely has any story whearas MGS has a huge one--- you can't really compare the 2 games they aren't competing with eachother.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is probably the most overhyped/overrated game ever.
