Zoe Herriot
Leela (talked briefly with Loiuse Jameson at 30th anniversary convention)
Romana I
Jamie McCrimmon
Captain Mike Yates (met him at a gothic Dr Who convention in Manchester)
Ian Chesterton

I was going to add Romana II, but she doesn't have the Timelord air that The Doctor has (but often hides) and Romana I managed perfectly.

Susan was originally written to be much stronger and much more powerful, but the character was toned down and dumbed down. A crying shame. Still, I'd regard her as a superb companion, just not the best of the best.

Quatermass.... you forgot K9 no 4. Rebuilt for Sarah but stuck in a black hole...

Also ...

Some companions don't want to leave but get taken away and have their memories wiped.
That was nasty.

Remember there was a great comic with Jamie McCrimmon as a "crazy" Highlander who kept dreaming of space travel.

Not stuck, exactly, AFAIK....

I didn't see this comic, although I think you're talking about The World Shapers...

Only two suffered this fate. Jamie and Zoe. Unless you count the Brigadier with repressed memory from Mawdryn Undead.

I might also include a couple of characters from the books and audios (not the comics, though, that'll take forever...)

In rough chronological order...

Erimem (5th Doctor, Big Finish)

Evelyn Smythe (6th Doctor, Big Finish)

Grant Markham (6th Doctor, Virgin Missing Adventures)

Hex (7th Doctor, Big Finish)

Bernice Summerfield (7th Doctor, Virgin New Adventures and Big Finish)

Roz Forrester (7th Doctor, Virgin New Adventures)

Chris Cwej (7th Doctor, Virgin New Adventures)

Samantha Jones (8th Doctor, BBC Books)

Fritz Kreiner (8th Doctor, BBC Books)

Compassion (8th Doctor, BBC Books)

Trix (8th Doctor, BBC Books)

Charley Pollard (8th Doctor, Big Finish)

C'rizz (8th Doctor, Big Finish)

Lucy (8th Doctor, Big Finish)

Wot ... no frobisher??? .... then again, probably just as well.

BTW: Dunno what AFAIK.... means but ...

My kids and I have been watching the Sarah Jane Adventures (courtesy of Torrents since Australia can't be bothered buying this excellent series) and so far K9 hasn't made it out of the furnace.

AFAIK means 'as far as I know'.

And he does.

Sarah Jane Adventures has apparently been bought by the ABC, they're just yet to show it.

Having only seen the new series, my favourite companion would be Donna Noble because she is probably the silliest. Captain Jack's good as well.

I have a lot of the classic series on DVD and my favourites have to be

Romana 1 she doesn't take any stick from the Doctor
Jamie McCrimmon he can be quite funny at times
Jo Grant she can be scatty at times which can be funny
Ace she is hard

From the new series
Donna Noble

1. Donna
2. Captain Jack Harkness
3. Rose (she was great in the first two series but all the mentions of her are starting to annoy me!)
