The writer.
I was referring to his short stories "The Dunwich Horror" and "The Shadow Over Innsmouth".

Thats Stupid, If you have Intercourse use a condom for goodness sakes. Secondly its a sin to have sex before marriage. Will then again some people are brainless and don't care that a kid will hurt them economically as a teen.

Quote From the Old Testament-
"Thou shall not commit adultary"

Just so you know, adultary is when your married. If your not married, its not adultary (its termed fornication).
It also sais you shouldn't fornicate, but that isn't a commandment Razz
Plus, lots of people aren't religious, and a lot that are don't care.

But yeah, the girls weren't thinking and thought it would be fun to have kids and raise them together. They don't think about the economic problems involved with it. Money grows on trees when your young right? Cool

very good points.

If you have religion or not, the Golden Rule is still a good rule to live by, treat others how you want to be treated.

As for these ho's in Gloucester, I put the blame squarely on their shoulders. They will have those kids for the next 16 - 18 years of their lives. They may learn from this experience, but only time will tell.

Apparently the girls made a pact to all get pregnant so that they can all have their kids and live/raise them together. these girls obvisouly did not pay attention in class.

In wake of this the school decided to give students access to birth control, but parents are still opposed this... I bet the parents of the girls are taking back their decision. Serves them right.

You can lead a horse to water...

Just tell 'em to have sex with whoever and it'll be fine because you put birth control in their drinking water and crushed it up in their school lunches. (mmm...mashed potates w/ a side of birth control!)

Kids are kids, thinking that your child is a 'good kid and would never have sex at a young age' is just unrealistic, the only way you can really stop them from doing it is locking them in their room 24/7, and we all know how wrong that is. To me, sex education and access to comdoms and birth control are a must, because kids are going to do it anyway, at least let them be safe and know what they are getting into. Some kids even avoid sex after learning about it knowing what some of the outcomes are.

I didn't even have a boyfriend when I went on the pill, I only wanted them to improve my acne problem.

If only it was that easy!!

School boards are run not by educators (which would make since!) but by self appointed "community leaders." Usually they are right-wing fundamentalist born-again Christians who have NO problem using their job to evangelize to us! When I was in high school, in Tennessee, they pulled our math books!! It said that there were no absolutes, which to them meant that we'd all turn to a life of crime & drugs, get it??

anyway, the best thing you, or any of us can do, is try to de-program kids from that abstinence only rubbish they push in schools. It doesn't even work. They also teach that condoms aren't effective when they are!

The point of my post above was meant as a layer of sarcasm, seeing as that is how people treat things.
Are you depressed? Here, take some medicine.
Medicine doesn't resolve WHY your depressed, it only takes care of the symptoms.

As for kids having sex, I know it happens and it is rather sad that people are just like "Well, boys will be boys and girls will get knocked up! Its life, what can you do?". Also, it isn't an unrealistic goal to have your children grow up with those expectations. If your man enough to have sex, your man enough to buy your own condoms and not sneak around and do it on the side.

I'm all for sex education. Let them make their own decisions about it, but let those decisions be well informed. Schools today do a disservice in the fact that their "sex ed" is really just a "abstinence is best" scare tactic.

Teaching them about sex and then giving them a condom is like saying "Don't objectify girls" and then handing them a magazine to "look" through because you know they are going to do it anyways.

While I understand you have less acne and lighter flows with birth control, that is a bit different. Your treating physical things WITH a physical medicine. You can't treat these girls problem with a pill. They have a lack of understanding, that is the problem. Pregnancy is just a symptom of this. (which is what the sarcastic post was supposed to illuminate)

Exactly Right! Schools push what the parents want them to teach, not what they actually NEED to teach. I didn't choose abstinence because my school told me. I didn't choose it because the Bible said so either. To assume someone would take that path just "because you said so" is very irresponsible, and does the child no favors because now not only do they have to make this decision for themselves, but if they choose anything BUT abstinence, they have to do the research involved with doing it as well (and we all know kids aren't going to do that).

If it hadn't actually happened, I'd say some porno person made the whole thing up.
It's sad.

it didn't actually happen. there were more pregnancies than average at a high school, and the principal made everything else up. media whore? crazy guy? just wanted to take the attention off himself and his school in an 'if it weren't for those pesky kids' move?

I've had this Metallica/Lovecraft-inspired line in my head the last days -- "Pray for mommy roaming free".

This idea is quite scary. I hope the girls don't go getting pregnant again in any hurry. One child is plenty at that age. I wonder why they would think this whole idea was a good thing? They probably did know about birth control but if they wanted to be pregnant, of course they wouldn't have used it.
