| I don't know but most people mean no by I will think about it(or at least my parents did), if I say "I will think about it"it means I don't know yet I have to consider all options and such ....exactly that I will think about it. I try and use "I will need some time to consider that" now as its not so coomon . |

Actually, most of those sales people are IDIOTS that try to throw you off your feet, and get you to buy. They WANT you to "prove them wrong", etc... They want to make you BUY to spite, etc... ANYTHING to keep YOU from thinking!
Most of the STUPID things I did were done FAST! That is ESPECIALLY bad since I have taken two good sales classes. I learned perhaps all the tricks. I was ADDICTED to one of the biggest and oldest IM websites anywhere. Say my handle there, and EVERYONE knows who I am. And I have seen SO many scams, etc... Frankly, I think I really AM going to "sleep on it" from now on.
Well, BACK TO THE IDIOTS, and your question. Many mean either....
1. I have decided NO, but just want OUT OF HERE!
or
2. I have a number of things to decide, and want to judge it when I am more relaxed, so I will wait. MANY of these people simply FORGET anyway, or keep putting it off.
BUT, THEY want you to say YES! They are hoping to get you to say yes ***NOW***! To do this, they often mark up the price JUST so they can mark it down to say "BUY IT NOW, or the price will be MUCH higher later!"! One scam in IM is a script that keeps boosting the sale price. You have to hit it QUICK, or the price can get high. Of course, if you refresh, or come back, the price often starts lower again.
BTW I recently asked a salesperson about time compression to play MP3s faster without changing the pitch. She went from someone that knew NOTHING about it to claiming to know EVERYTHING about it, etc... She said that was what TONE was for! NICE TRY!(SARC)
I am over 40, understand the technology for both, and tone controls WERE on devices in the 60s. Devices where what I wanted was IMPOSSIBLE to do! They didn't have the speed, sampling, intelligent technology, etc....
If they used the technology I am talking about, outside of some tapes and the like, they could have cost THOUSANDS of dollars. They didn't even have RAM back then! Computers used CORE memory or worse, and cost a LOT. In fact, it is a little known fact that most companies did NOT own computers! Most, that seemed to, actually LEASED them!
But NO, the tone button just changed the tone, and often didn't do much. And look what wikipedia says about them:

Yet she REALLY wanted to trick me into looking for an MP3 player with a tone control, and pay her a PREMIUM for it! |

"I'll think about it" is extremely often used as a formula cop-out to get off the hook, same as "We should get together sometime", "been too busy to call you", etc. One on the receiving end of "I'll think about it" usually assumes it's a cop-out, and therefore a NO.
Doesn't mean that people never mean it honestly, but usually they don't.

Some people who say "i'll think about" are not completely sure of their answer, but the answer usually comes out as a no.

| I use it sometimes. When i am to tired to get in a discussion or whatever. If i say no there will almost always be a follow up question about why i dont want to etc. and even when i answer that sometimes its not good enough or they not understand. I would say no more often if it ended right there, no followups. No means no, i dont want to have to explain myself. |

To me it means I'll think about it, but I've given up trying to work out what it means to others but I think you are right in saying it means no to them.
I don't know why people can't just say what they mean. |

It can mean several things:
'I don't want to hurt your feelings but I actually want to say no.'
'I am too busy right now.'
'I am confused and unsure about my own feelings and thoughts on this matter so I'd rather not think about it (any time soon).'
'I'm confused what you want from me!' or 'I don't have a clue what you're talking about!'
'I haven't been listening to you because I don't care (right now).'
That's the ones that I know of.

| I think sometimes to the person saying it, it really does mean they will think about it, but, from the perspective of the person trying to sell a time share (or other product with the one on couple sales strategy), "I'll think about it" almost always means, in the end, a no. |

Telling a time-share salesman "I'll think about it" is like telling a doctor "Please prescribe some tobacco cigarettes to me." Time-shares are SOLELY bought on impulse. Selling time-shares is about creating a special euphoric mental state in the people that fades an hour or so after. If they let you think about it, nobody would ever buy one. So of course they'll do anything to prevent you from having time to think about it.
In my country there's an organization that rescues people who bought vacation time-share. It's widely known that they were not thinking straight when they made the purchase. Psychological unethical means are used to create the euphoria and produce the YES.

That is why I research exactly what I need at home, on the internet, measurements, styles, models and gather the serial numbers for the appliance or tool or part. I know pretty much how much it will cost and have at least two different forms of payment. I call ahead to see if it is in, and how many in stock.I take the bus to the appliance store on my bus pass. I aske for the person that answered the phone when I get to the store and they are paid by commission, so they are glad to see me. They bring it up from the back and I cencke to match the serial number I pay for it and I am gone to the loading dock, 10 minutes from entrance to exit (on a good day) and I have what I need.
I don't have a car any more, I ride a 150cc scooter around town, so I call either # 59 or # 23 taxicab driver and they pick me up at the loading dock and I get home for about $11.90 and a five dollar tip and I add it to the cost of the appliance.
I have wandered the aisles stymied and overwhelmed by the choices vs requirements. I sometimes find I can only be truly functional when on a mission like the one mentioned above.

To me, "I will think about it" can mean either - I will either think about it ... or ... its easier than saying no.
I agree with other posts that the salesman wants to get you to sign up before you leave, that if you do actually think about it, you will probably decide no.

Did you buy it?
I know a guy in the UK who has a timeshare in Portrugul. It works well for him. But I have always thought of it as a scam. Time share here (Australia) never worked. I think some of the time share companies (after making a profit selling the time share) then made more money buying back all the time share rights at a heavy discount and taking back 100% control over the whole property.
Tell me how much the time share costs $ to buy into plus the $ annual fees and I will post an analysis of why and how its a rip off.
(Unless you have bought it, then so you don't feel too bad I will use different assumptions and show how it was OK - I am a CPA - lol)
PS - if you did buy it and you are having second thoughts - check your State laws whether there is a "cooling off" period where you can cancel with no penalty.
