I interviewed for a job recently that I wasn't sure I really wanted, but the longer I've been thinking about it, the more I'm beginning to wish they'd hire me. I'm pretty sure I've been rejected, as it's been about 4 weeks since I went for a second interview. But it took them 6 weeks to call me for that second interview after the first one, so I'm not sure. My assumption is that they were just waiting for more people to apply (there was no real deadline and they interviewed me a few days after I applied), which is why it took so long the first time around. But am I safe to assume that they're not going to offer the job to me now? At the second interview, they didn't say it would take an abnormally long time to get back to me, so I probably should've heard after a week or two.

I hate this whole "if we don't call you you're not hired" business. I wish they'd at least send an email or a letter or something so I could stop worrying about it. Do you think companies do it this way so that if their first choice candidate declines the offer or doesn't work out, they can still call their second choice?

I endured this BS too.

Just look for something else, if they are truly professional they would at least send you a rejection letter.

4 weeks is a long time, but 6 weeks was a long time to wait before. i think after this long it would be ok to call them and ask if you should still be waiting for a call.

i'm used to waiting 1-2 weeks after the last interview to hear back from a company. and i usually ask at the end of the interview 'so, i should be expecting to hear from you next week?' or something like that. i've always gotten a straight answer and never seemed to annoy anyone by asking.

and yeah, a lot of places will send you a rejection letter if you get that far in the process and don't get hired.

It can be a few days, it can be a month.

It varies.

Yeah, they said I should be hearing back in a week or two, but that's also what they said the first time.

I'm assuming I didn't get it. I'm on unemployment right now and for a variety of reasons I'd rather not get another job right away, but I'm still looking just in case. This one was the only job that I'd be willing to go back to work for right now.

You honestly really have to call them back because that shows them how interested you are in the job, and if you keep bugging them they won't forget you. I feel your pain because I was unemployed for 2 years and went through a lot of those. I hate it when they say they will call you back and they don't. I had one guy practically give a sermon about how he thought it was cruel to say he would call someone back and not do it and even he didn't give me a call back. They are basically really busy a lot of the time and don't have time to do it, which I agree it completely nuts and they should tell you to call and not try and play mind games with you. But this is the way the system works a lot of the time unfortunately. Plus if you wait for the to call you back you could be waiting a very long time. I had jobs call me back like 5 months later and I was like "Ummm I'm no longer interested." lol Yeah so, the 4 weeks might not actually mean you didn't get the job.

Haven't you called to ask what the status of the position is?

It varies depending on the type of work you want to do.
