It starts in 20 minutes here in Cali. It sucks, the people who passed it are morons.
/Just another piece of legislation that makes Cali more like 1984 than anything resembling free
//They're thinking about ditching the cameras at stop lights because they're too effective and they aren't making as much money as pre-cameras now |

while driving?
we have had laws like that for a long time. Its OK if you have a hands free kit.
Its illegal to even hold a phone while in a car, unless it is parked. For example if you here held up at a railway crossing and NOT MOVING - it would be illegal to look at a text message or anything.
And an Australian company, Redflex I think is the leader in red light cameras. But they can't install any in some States in the US as not all States have laws to enforce the collection of fines from them.
Also I notice the ones here do not have any sort of armour on them. A 22 rimfire would easily penetrate the housing. There was one in Melbourne that was shot up by a 12ga which got into the news. I am surprised there are not more shot up, especially speed cameras on the Hume Freeway. _________________ I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in.

openly firing guns like that draws attention to yourself really quickly and can get you into a metric ton of trouble.
normally the people who fight that stuff here just either messes up the electronics somehow or just sprays over the lenses with paint. |

^ I remember Litigious saying in Sweeden some get blown up with explosives He says Sweeden has very tight gun control but few controls on the sale of fun stuff like instantaneous fuse. _________________ I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in.

| Cell phone bans are always passed by morons looking for scapegoats. The reality is that things like drinking alcohol and eating a burger are much more hazardous to a person's driving ability. They are talking about having traffic light cameras here too, but more likely, its going to result in a lot of cameras being shot out or blown up. |

It's all dangerous and should be banned. At a stop light, I recently sat behind a women who was eating, smoking, putting on makeup, and talking on a cell phone. When the light turned green, she drove off, still trying to multi-juggle those tasks, although she did put some of them on hold. |

Someone did that near here a few years back with some explosives from a quarry. There are, or rather were, several on a main road near me but certain locals didn't like the idea, and now there's one. I doubt it'll last long.
You know, they even have hidden cameras, here, to spy on the areas around the speed cameras, to prevent their destruction. They got a great shot of a bloke dressed in black with a balaclava covering his face when the last one was burnt out. The local paper published the pictures, and the gestapo... I mean local police, were acting as if this chap had committed some atrocious crime against humanity, and were encouraging anyone who knew him to turn him in. Needless to say, nobody did. Personally, I'd happily buy the chap a drink for his good work. |

Part of my job involves engineering the installation and maintainance of CCTV, Red-Light, and Toll-Violations cameras, so my income depends on their effectiveness and efficiency. Another part of my job involves cruising websites like this one to discover what new methods are being promoted to defeating these cameras.
Damaging or destroying these cameras is a crime, and is punishable under the law. But criminals are not very smart.
We caught one guy who stole some of our cameras because he looked right into the lens while he was disconnecting them.
We caught several others who were "dressed in black with balaclavas covering their faces" because our multiple-wavelength imagery can see through most common types of fabric.
We have caught other vandals because they left fingerprints on the poles they shinneyed up on, or on the tools they left at the scene. Some left blood or sputum samples that are now on file with the county sheriff, and when these people are arrested for other crimes, their DNA will be tested, and they will be linked to these acts of theft and vandalism.
Bullets can be traced to the weapons they came from, and then to the people that fired those weapons.
Criminals, although not very bright, are constantly trying new methods to break the law. Unfortunately for them, they also tend to brag about their exploits on websites like this one, and thus reveal their methods (if not themselves) to people like me, who have a vested interest in catching these criminals and in improving the robustness of our equipment.
So all I can say at this point is, Thanks for your help! _________________ gone but not forgotten |

A 'whore' gets paid for doing something both illegal and immoral. I get paid for working on the proper side of the law. That you merely don't like what I do, does not make it 'whoring'.

enabling others to spy on everyone is quite immoral. it would be illegal except it benefits those who make the laws and, well, power-hungry people always want more power. kinda like a nymphomaniac but not as fun. |
