I have applied for jobs 20 times with no luck this time I watch very carefully how my friends showed me how to do it. One friend has AS also so his mom and our other friend told us to BS it like:
Hold hands together calmly
Lean forward
look at eyes
smile entire time.
Ask simple related questions
Personally I don't understand why people do this, but I applied at a a job today, so hopefully they can't tell the difference. |

Holding hands together prevents the hand-flapping or hand-wringing (my problem) that are common stims. If you look fidgety, you'll make a bad impression. Eye contact is essential, albeit uncomfortable for those of us on the spectrum. Asking questions (even pointless ones) demonstrates your "interest" so be sure to ask a few questions even if you don't really have any. Smiling helps as long as it doesn't look fake (not sure yet how to fake sincerity, but I'm working on it). I don't know about leaning forward, but you probably shouldn't slouch.

| You guys are young, wait till you get to the big stuff like manager, geoscientist, biologist, engineer, etc. It's total chaos because of the anxiety of knowing if you blow an interview you might not get work where you want and have to move and all that good stuff. I can't even think of questions to ask because I can't think at all under pressure and complete terror comes over me. I then do extremely dumb things but half the time I don't even remember because I almost black out. So the point is, if you can ask relevant questions, go for it! |

Although I've a good job, I haven't been to that many "interviews" ... However, I was coached to act exactly like that in the interviews, and I know that when I ended up stim'ing in the interview, those ones never called me back.
The one advantage I have is that any job I've gone for has had a Technical test ... and If I had the chance to do that BEFORE the face-to-face interview, I'd be more relaxed (and they'd typically want to hire me) ... makes for an easier interview.
Where i work, there have been times where the Hiring Manager (technical) has deliberately overridden the HR department and demanded that a person be hired even tho' the HR morons might have wanted to sh**-can the application ... |
