| You don't have to be unkind, he is trying to help, and it is heading towards boundaries as you are advertising it as an 'Autism Speaks' t-shirt making it clear that it is a direct dig at them, I'm not good at 'laws' or anything like that, but whether its breaking them or not your newest t-shirt is a lot less subtle than the last. All makuranososhi was saying was that maybe you could approach it from another direction. |

It won't change things, though I appreciate your comments. Zach does not want any input from those who have questions about what he is doing; while that is his choice, he will have to suffer those of us who still wish to converse. You're right - advertising it as an 'Autism Speaks' shirt will be considered an infringement. If you'd like, PM me and we can talk about some possible designs and slogans.

The Shirt is legal. It is covered by Fair Use and copyright laws. I'm not attempting to be subtle - Autism Speaks is making no attempt to be subtle with its threats twords us.
And harrasing me via PM isnt going to change that fact.

The shirt may be legal - if you had read thoroughly, you would note that was the issue being brought up, not the content of the shirt itself; advertising it as an 'Autism Speaks' t-shirt is not appropriate or legal.
There was no harassment, Zach - I told you that I didn't appreciate your tone, and invited you to discuss your problems with me directly in a private message. We don't agree, that much is clear. But I do not attack you or your ideas, as you have continued to do with me. So knock it off and move on.

Ah, but if only that were true, Zach... I do not support Autism Speaks, and I have spoken out in numerous threads as to why I disagree with their viewpoints. However, I do refuse to turn to insults to make my point... while I find much of what they do distasteful, I acknowledge where their motivation may come from.

That is not what I said at all, Zach.
I find the very idea of not speaking for one's self distasteful; when you posted the first issue, I supported you and offered alternatives in the interim as you pursued your battle against them... I find THEIR actions distasteful, Zach, and disagree with their attempts to push a single-minded view of the spectrum conditions and as well as their resolve to 'cure' autism instead of treat and understand it.
Your questions do not represent what I said at all; I find their attempts to inhibit free speech to be problematic and wrong. At the same time, working in the performing arts, in education, and in antiques... I have a fairly good working knowledge of fair use, copyright issues and slander/libel - and have tried to interject comments where appropriate as you've brought things to attention in a public forum.
Others: If I am not making myself plainly understood, please let me know - I have reread my post and cannot find the interpretation that Zach is making. Thanks in advance -

If you refer to your shirt as an "Autism Speaks T-Shirt", you are (unintentionally) implying that:
1) You are affiliated with the organization, or
2) The organization has authorized you to sell T-Shirts on its behalf
If you don't want to get into trouble for this you should refer to the T-Shirts as something different in your advertising. |
